I have some etch a sketch like lines on my LOTW chip when

installed in my HDS7. These lines are not shown when the

    chip is in my H2Oc.

I called LakeMap and they put the chip in a HDS7 and explained the process of how to eliminate the unit from

    reading these lines.

    1. Press menu once

    2. Scroll to chart options (arrow right)

    3. Scroll down to categories and press enter

There are several “Chart categories” listed here.

You can go in and deselect certain items you don’t want

    to see on the map.

One of these categories that the LakeMap rep had on his

HDS7 was “Hunting”. He was able to remove the lines by

    deselecting the hunting category.

    I don’t have a hunting category on my HDS7.

We both had the same/latest software although he was

    running an HDS7 with “Insight”.

I then called Lowrance and they couldn’t find a “Hunting”

category on the 3 HDS units they checked.

I have tried deselecting all of the chart categories I

have listed but the lines remain.

Anybody have an idea on this??

    Thanks!

Dan – Does it do that with any other chip?

That’s a new one for me!

I’ve haven’t seen these on my MN09 chip.

I put the chip into my HDS10 to do a screenshot of the lines. See screeshot #1.

I then went into the chart categories and “Hunting” was

    listed.

I deselected it and the lines went away as the second screen shot shows.

When I went back into the chart categories I didn’t see

“Hunting”. It now only shows the same categories as my

    HDS7 does. See screenshot #3.

    Now I’m totally confused.

    Hi,
I believe the map categories drawn field is related to the Lakemaster chip you have inserted into the unit (the LOW chip) and not the level of software of the Lowrance box.
Lakemaster chips w/ this categories drawn field allow the user to tailor the chip displayed info to the unit the chip is present. E.g. for a user w/ the LOW chip installed in a handheld unit (IE Expedition C) might want to see park info, highways, etc., while your interested in seeing waypoints, my trails, icons, etc. As to the cross hatches on the screen – could that be your Lat/Lon Grid lines that you might have enabled? I hope this helps you as I believe this is what your saying is the problem.

    Take care,
    Roger

    Hi Roger,

See pic#1. The screenshots weren’t uploaded when you replied.

    Thanks,

I just put the chip back into the HDS10 and the lines are
    back.

Now I don’t have “hunting” to deselect to make them go away.

    I’m lost on this one.

    Hi,
Your right, as soon as I posted my reply I saw your pictures. Ignore what I said.

Those lines that you’re referring to in picture #1 remind me of stuff you will see on Navionics chips. There, within the boundaries of the lines (shapes), the chip has detailed info. E.G. bottom contours, etc. Do those lines disappear at deeper levels of display (50ft or 20ft)? Then, it might be a don’t care.

    Take care,
    Roger

Dan, I think I would try to get in touch with the “right person” at Lakemaster. Someone there should be able to help you. If you can’t find someone who can ask to talk to Mike Wood directly.

Not a LakeMaster problem. Definitely a software glitch with
    one of the HDS updates.

I can get the “Hunting” category to show up intermittently
by restoring defaults. It usually reverts back to the
list in the first screenshot. If I power the unit down and turn it back on it will also revert back to the list in the first screenshot. (After finally obtaining the “Hunting” category within the expanded list.)

Screenshots 2 and 3 show the expanded list I will sometimes
get. Most of these categories have submenus and the only
way to get rid of the lines on my chip is through deselecting the “Hunting” category.

The 3rd screenshot shows a few more selections that I couldn’t get in the 2nd screenshot.
These start after the “Roads” category.

Screenshot #4 shows shows the subcategories under “Hunting”.

Weird deal on this being intermittent!!

You are correct on this Roger. I found out today that the
chart categories will/should change when a chip is inserted.
For some reason my HDS will only give me the expanded list
after I restore defaults. (everytime I turn it on)

    Thanks for the response!
