Anyone have any experience with this?

Many of the areas I fish do not have cell service and there has been a number of times I came in while the storm went around us. (better safe than sorry).

The weather alert on the marine band radio is nice, but it’s not really localized.

Also, I would only use it for 4 months. Is there a penalty for early withdrawal?

I have the XM weather service on my humminbird, and I assume they would be the same because they are owned by the same company. I really like it. You can setup how far away the inclement weather is from you before it will pop up on the screen of the warning. It works great the only thing I don’t like is when I am fishing on the Canadian border it doesn’t show anything in Canada, so if the weather is coming from Canada you can’t see what the radar looks like. I think that you can just suspend your service for up to 6 months, and then there is no re-activation fee. I ran mine from April to October, and shut it down for the winter. I know that the XM antenna was cheaper than the Sirius antenna for some reason. Most likely because Lowrance seems to enjoy gouging their customers for extra cash more so than humminbird does.

I did a review on my use of the Sirius weather on my Lowrance HDS with photos at http://www.hightechfishing.com/sirius.html. I subscribed from April to October and it is on hold until I activate it this spring. You can use it month by month I don’t remember a new activation fee. When a storm has lightning the alarm goes off and you can see on the weather overlay how far away the storm is, how fast it is moving and the direction it is moving. Basically if it shows lightning strikes and the arrows are pointing at the boat cursor you head for the landing.

    Doc,

Your link is not working for me.

I’ll try to get to it on your site.

I copied and pasted it again and it still doesn’t work. Dan, thanks for putting up the link.

Looks like the activation fee is 25.00 plus 12.99/mo.

    for the “Inland Weather” package.

There is a special deal on now where you can buy the antenna for $99. That is one sweeeeet deal. It is usually 3 times that much. Check the Lowrance web site. I just ordered mine 2 days ago.
