Please HB guys, bite your tongue…this thread is for Lowrance users.

I’m asking only Lowrance users why they like their units and which model they’re using.

Even though I put a 997 on the console, I still run a LMS332c and a 102c on my boat and absolutely love those units. The main reason is that I think Lowrance has a leg up on reading bottom. They’ve got a sharper picture and cleaner target separation.

    BK,
I run an LCX-37 on my dash and a LCX-27 on the bow. I have had no problems with mine what so ever. They are easy to use and understand. Any “Idiot” can figure them out including dem dare cat guys. I have recently listed my units for sale and sealed the deal on a new HDS-10 and HDS-8 with structure scan. I can’t wait to try them bad boys out. Now I just have to find a boat that is worth more than the electronics on it. Oh well, like I always say “Go big or go home”

I’ve had bad luck with other units getting fogged up because moisture seeped in somehow. I had my 520c on a boat that was capsized and under 3 foot of water for nearly 24 hours. That unit is still water tight and never has had a foggy screen!

I’m not sure if you are talking about any Lowrance products or just dash units, but I just picked up an iFinderH2O and with my navionics chip I can set up right over the maked cribs! This unit has helped me find more fish in the 3 weeks I have had than I did all last year. I have had a few garmin handheld units and they don’t compare to the iFinder.

Ease of use. I have 3 Lowrance units I use.

Transferability…I have an iFinder Expedition C that I can transfer waypoints to for ice fishing.

I also have had very good luck with the durability of the products.

As was mentioned above, I think the bottom separation capabilities are superior with Lowrance.

Ease of use and other than one glitch-reliabity. that said, a 997 is going beside my lowrance for the SI and gps-love the lowrance gps, just minimizing units plus humminbird has some cool new features.
Getting to be chevy’s v/s fords.
If lowrance customer service were improved, think there would be lot less disgruntledness.

x-97,paid for and works great for the type of fishing I do.Have fished with guys on the river that have the new and improved units, seems we still fish the same way as before, the screens are prettier though.

Their customer service is top notch in my opinion.

If I don’t have the time to call in the a.m. then I wait
    until I do…………..

    Lowrance has a 2 year warranty (HDS)&(SturctureScan)
with the option to extend it an additional 2 years
within the first year of ownership.

HB has a one year warranty with no extension option.

We were using my HDS-7 in the cab of my vehicle and we
were able to get 3D navigation without having to put it
on the dash. So the internal antenna gets a big
    from me.

When I rigged my new boat, I put a new 997 on and I kept the Lowrance units because its what I was used to, had all my waypoints saved, and I could read my Lakemaster chips. I have also been happy with their customer service.

I have no bias on any brand, but seems like ease of use is a common response here.I am curious is that more of familiarity & what you are used to, or is it really ease issue?

I was going to say familiarity, which I think it what everyone is referring to as ease of use. I’ve had a Lowrance unit of one kind or another in my boat for many years. I’ve got a LCX-25c right now and am planning on getting a side scan unit in 2010 … probably an HDS-8 or HDS-10, but I haven’t totally made up my mind yet on Lowrance vs. HB.

I like the colors and layouts on the Lowrance displays better than HB, especially in regards to the GPS. Maybe that’s just because I’m used to reading a Lowrance display, but it’s reality either way. I’m also used to their buttons and menus … ease of use, familiarity, whatever you want to call it. Bottom line is I’m used to and like my Lowrance and it appears that their technology is now just as good as HB. Why would I change?

I know Lowrance had some issues with customer service for a while, but I’m confident that they’ve got it figured out now. I hadn’t even considered the warranty issue, but if it’s two years vs. one year I think that makes the decision even easier.

I have a HDS7 & HDS5 and i love how easy it is to identify everything on the screen. Meaning identifing fish from rocks and other bottom cover. Have had a few issues, but I still love these units. Although they need to stop raising their prices. I believe HB and Lowrance both make excellent units. NO different than Chevy or Ford, everyone has their favorite.

In 2005 I loved my units when they were brand new. By 2007 the bow 102c puked on me and now last year the lms332c had times when it wouldnt lock into satelites. If I had the money to upgrade I honestly dont know which way I would go.

i’ve always used them, so its easy for me to switch to a new model, and know how to run 99% of the stuff on it instantly. i don’t have to spend a day reading an instruction manual.

i run an eagle, and lowrance units in my boat, and use a ifinder h20c in both the truck and boat. the only issue i’ve ever had, was a transducer went bad, and they replaced it, even though it was 3 months out of warranty.

The HB units are nice, but i’m not planning on upgrading to a unit of that cost anytime soon. so, i’m not sure what i’d go with if i spend 1k plus on a unit.

so…hopefully everyone else out there upgrades to HB and keeps selling their lowrance units a discounted price.

Waypoint transfer, reliability, and familiarity. I have 3 LCX model units and love them all. I can transfer waypoints in seconds from my handheld to dash units.

I’ve been using Lowrance locator’s since the “Green Box” days, and they have not given me a reson to switch to any other brand yet! I just orederd a HDS-8 for the back of my boat so I can run my 522 up front this season!

I’ve had lowrance units since the lms350 days. I have had very few problems with all the units i’ve had and when i did didn’t have any problems with the customer service. I like the gps as it’s user friendly ( at least to me } and the lake mastermaps are awsome on the lowrance units. I have lcx 110, lcx 37 and just got the hds 8. soon hope to get my LSS-1 transducer for the side scan and down imaging.

I’ve had good luck with my antique X-3. I’ve always used it for a depth finder. I’d sell this to you Brian K, if the price was right. At least it turns on But I too would like to know which unit is the best value, in the 500-700 dolar range.

Converting sonar logs to highly detailed charts using DrDepth is a major draw card, not to mention DownScan ……… WoW!

I like the Broadband sonar crispness and clarity. The attached photos are a school of crappies and the fish near baitfish that I never saw the fish with the LCX just baitfish. The target separation with the Broadband is excellent.

    Now that is impressive Doc!

In photo 2, each one of those “humps” is bait fish?

The bumps are baitfish from Oahe this summer. I saw baitfish balls everywhere. They were on shore and suspended for miles. And the walleyes still bit!!
