I do not have the 5 but have the HDS7 and can not be happier. I have one in the back and one in the front and both have been flawless except one had a leaky screen. Reed’s in Walker, MN took very good care of me.

Been running a HDS5 all open water season. Great unit. Just a note. It requires some setup the first time out and the menu system is a little different. Expect to spend about 20 minutes getting it zeroed in. Part of that setup will be spent checking out all the options – over 10 different color patterns for the sonar and so on. Very happy with the unit.

I have the 5’s and been very happy with them thus far. I do not use the GPS and mapping part to much since most of my time is on the mighty miss. As Stanman said, they do take a while to get set up to perform the way you want in different situations.

Our customer feedback has been very good, and I’ve been on the water with a couple and they are great units. The HDS-5 with basemap is on sale at Jolly Ann Marine for $615 shipped free. The HDS-5 with Lake Insight is on sale for $699 and Lowrance has a $50 rebate on that unit, good until January 3rd.

don’t get the one without GPS. It needs to be linked to someone elses unit to get any upgrades
