When I turn my unit on it takes up to 5 minutes for it to read the depth. It shows the water temp right away. Is any one else having this problem?

I have the HDS8 and haven’t had that issue. My units finds the bottom within a few seconds after powering up. Prior to performing a reset of the unit it was impossible to navigate to a sonar only screen. I was limited to split screen. I was also having some speed issues with the processing of the base map. Talk about slow going from one map page to the next. The reset did not fix that issue so now I’m going to try the latest download and see if that offers an improvement.

My HDS-7 shows a depth reading shortly after powering up. Assuming you’re in very shallow water when you turn it on, perhaps the sensitivity setting is too high to get a good depth reading. Battery condition might also be an issue. The units seem to be quite sensitive to voltage and you may be experiencing low voltage just after starting the outboard.
