Hi guys. I bought two new Lowrance units. I bought one 3 years ago and one 3 weeks ago. I have been having problems getting them to read correctly and effectively. I have a 1800 Lund Fisherman. 140 Suzuki motor with a 9.9 yamaha kicker. I get good bottom reading from 10-35 FOW but then lose bottom once I get deeper or try to drive the boat faster.
I have tried hardwiring the units right to a 12 volt and moved the transducer and tried everything I can think of.
Anyone ever have problems like this. I have 2500 dollars in electronics and they dont work on my boat.
I have plugged my units into a buddies unit and they work fine and perfect like they should. I am thinking it has something to do with the boat.
Anybody have these problems or and answer.
    Thanks

Where are your transducers mounted? Are you running both units at the same time?

If the units work on your buds boat, could be transducer, but because you can read the bottom in certian depths I don’t know about a weak transducer, possibly location. I had a older x-97 when the transducer went I couldn’t read anything.

I had similar issues last year when I was in 10′ or less. I tried the hard reset and spent some time on the phone with Lowrance making sure I had the current software updates, etc. My problem was the transducer. I put a new transducer on (replaced one that was only 2 years old) and everything works fine. Hopefully that’s all it is in your case.

My dad has a lund explorer and had the same problems. Both units read bottom just as you explained. Both have done it since day 1. Finally talked him into one new ducer and that one works just fine. He ordered the second one yesterday…..

It very well might be your transducer. If you cannot find one at a dealer good luck dealing with Lowrance. You WILL sit on hold for at least 25-30 minutes every time you call. They don’t even have the transducers in stock.

HORRIBLE customer service. The worst I have ever dealt with. Its Humminbird for me from now on.

I had the same issues you described end tried wiring direct to the battery and still didn’t fix the problem. Today I partially rigged on a new transducer and it worked perfect. Never did the digital depth reading blink or measure 1.3′ nor did I loose contact with the bottom.

    Maybe try a new ‘ducer.

Got a new transducer and it seems to be working. Worked awesome and flawless the first time I went out and a few times after that. Nows its losing bottom contact in 5 FOW and less. Wondering if its going bad again. I might keep Lowrance in business buying new ducers all the time

Mine was doing that last year, I ran the update they had and now its reading just fine in shallow water. Take a look to see if yours is up to date or not.
