My LMS 520 was submerged and the display is now scrambled. Any opinion on whether is would be more cost effective to repair or just to replace? If I were to replace are Lowrance connections compatible from model to model? Does anyone suggest a certain model? Kind of budget limited. Thank you.

HDS units will utilize the same power and transducer as your
    520.

If you have a red network you will have to power it separately and not through the power cable.

I’m not sure they will repair the 520’s any longer.

There is a used unit on Ebay right now, head unit only, buy it now for $205.00

I don’t know what repair cost might be but if I could repair for the same or less than used, I’d certainly repair mine and know I had a reconditioned unit.

I don’t think they will even repair that unit due to age.

that is a legacy unit, and they don’t repair them anymore. you can call lowrance and see if they will give you a discount on a new elite 7 or hds unit. because the 520 is trash, you can try and put the 520 in a bag of rice for a week or so and see if that does anything, it has worked on cell phones in the past. I would take the screws out and open the 520 up and submerge the whole thing in the rice. if it don’t work, all you are out is a bag of rice.

I would try and buy a head unit like mentioned. I love my old 520 and see zero reason to change/upgrade since its an awesome unit.

x2 in them not repairing it any more… as far as I know and have been told they wont touch anything pre “hds” anymore… I think is bs, and doesn’t help lowrance current standing against hummingbird!!

The 520c is a great unit.
But I’ll bet Lowrance will not repair it.
They were however offering credit towards HDS units a few years ago for units that failed.
As others have said the HDS units will “plug in” and replace your 520c.
Or you could look around for another used 520c.
