I have a new Gen II HDS 8 that I’ve been using this year and really love. Here’s the problem: when I’m mapping, it no longer draws a line to show where I’ve been. I remember going thru the menu and removing the ‘x’ from a box that said something about the trail history (or line), and now I cannot find it anywhere to get it back. Any help? Thanks

Go to your chart page.
Press MENU x2
Then select CHART
It’s either there or maybe you’ll need to go into TRAILS there and you’ll find it.
May 21, 2014 at 2:10 am #1411535Boy, I tell ya I’ve looked everywhere, and especially the places you describe. I just can’t find it anywhere. Of course, I don’t really know the title of what I’m looking for either, which would help. But it’s getting to the point of doing some night trolling and I really need that line to keep me out of some trees. Pretty dark out there when it’s cloudy with a new moon!
May 21, 2014 at 2:18 am #1411539I skipped a step and added it above.
Once you see it you’ll go…
I was just changing my settings last Fri/Sat.
May 21, 2014 at 2:28 am #1411540Hmmm….ok, I’ll give that a try tomorrow. I’m sure I’ve been there already, but who knows. I’ll give it a try and see if I can find it. Do you know the title of the item I’m looking for? Is it a setting under another window I need to open? I have looked and looked for this damn thing. Drivin me nuts, which is a short trip.
May 21, 2014 at 5:08 am #1411547Go into your “Waypoints, Routes, and Trails” page.
Highlight “Trails” and press enter.
Hit the “Menu” button and then hit “New” and then “Enter” or
“Save”.When you delete your trails you have to start a new trail.
It is not automatic like on the LMS and LCX models.May 21, 2014 at 7:43 am #1411586Inside the Waypoints, Route, Trails page you have to select “DISPLAY” to see the trail
Or “RECORD” to record a new trail.
As an example, I am sure we all have seen BK’s trail he laid down as a safe run back to the resort. Well if you were to uncheck the DISPLAY on that trail it would come off the map. It will still be stored in the memory, but only become visible once DISPLAY selected.
To see any trail….past or present you must have the display on that specific trail selected. Or to hide any trail past or present turn off the Display button.
The pictures above are from the HDS10 Gen 2, Waypoint, Route, Trails page. Photo 1 is with the display on and photo 2 shows what it looks like when turned off!
hope this helps

Cal, isn’t there a global “show trails” in the chart menu?
The trails default to always displayed until you turn them off. That’s about the only “global” show trails

May 23, 2014 at 7:33 am #1412028Haha, yup, now I’m a bit confused too! Mostly because with my older lowrance units, I never played with the trails options and routes and all that. But for some reason, I’m thinkin I might be able to figure this one out. Going to play with it some more after reading these posts a little harder this weekend. If I can put in a trail and then just save it and pop it up anytime I wanna see it, that’d be great. That way when I’m on that water I can just follow it anytime I want, right?
May 25, 2014 at 12:16 pm #1412198Ok, last night I gave it a try and it worked real nice. I added my HDS 7 in the back of the boat, pretty much for trolling purposes only, and it started drawing lines immediately, of course. Worked out real nice. But I did figure it out on the HDS 8 too, so thank you guys. Now I need to figure out how the trails, routes and all that works. It enver ends….
