We purchased a used boat last year and it came with lcx 37 on the dash and a hds 5 x on the bow. While fising last weekend I was not liking the difference between the two sonars as far as what they were marking . So on our way home we stopped at the electronics dept were I shop just to ask some questions as maybe I was not running of adjusting it right. The first guy I talked to asked if I have had an up date ? I had not and he told me to bring it in some time . I had it with so they went to do an up date and to make a long story short they locked it up. they called me today and said they were in touch with lowrance and that it was fryed and that it happens once and a while. Now they are telling me that lowrance will sell me a remanufactured one for 250.00 or they can sell me a new one at there employee discount price. Im not sure how to handle this I am a small business owner and I know how I would handle it. Part of me feels im not getting treated right. what do you guys think and how would you handle it?

which unit did they lock up on you? Personally, I think the place that locked it up should at least cover half of it, but it probably isn’t their fault, just one of those things that happens. I would ask them to give you a unit for cost, not for the employee price if they won’t cover half the cost. They shouldn’t be making money off the deal, and typically, employee prices still have a little bit of profit in there.

I am not sure how this happens, too ignorant but it does seem as if they were genuinely trying to help you get an update and if they did not do anything wrong in this process to cause this why would you expect them to pay? Now if you are certain that it was a shortcoming on their part that changes the complexion of things. Did the do something wrong or is it “kill the messenger”. I would try to figure that out.

Well, if the store were to do that, they would likely stop doing any updates for customers to prevent further losses. Then somebody will feel they have poor service. It’s a no win situation.
They didn’t charge you for a service, so it really isn’t much different than it happening to you or a buddy helping you out.
Take the deal and go fish.
May 7, 2014 at 5:18 am #1408897I am thinking that this is the x37 that locked up. Try and uninstall the update and reinstall the old “update”. Just a thought, if that doesn’t work, send me the head unit and I will see if I can get it to work on my boat
May 7, 2014 at 5:27 am #1408898Lowrance has been great to me, I would bet they are going to upgrade you to an HDS unit that has been remanufactured, so going from a 37 to a HDS for 250 isn’t a bad thing. When I was in your same shoes I had trouble with my 37, they upgraded me to a HDS 8 for $500, so I asked how much to upgrade to a HDS 10? It was another $100 and that’s a no brainer. So you got a bunch of lemons with this situation, work with the service rep and explain the situation and I bet you will get into a newer unit at an unbelievable price, then you can look back and smile about “updating your software!”
May 7, 2014 at 5:42 am #1408906I had a lowrance lock up on me after only 15 months of buying it called to get it fixed and they told me that it had a 12 month warenty and replacement at my expense was my only option they gave me about 20% off a new unit I will not buy from lowrance until they start standing behind there stuff. have all humminbird now and have had great service!!
sandmanndPosts: 928May 7, 2014 at 5:57 am #1408912The manufacturer should take care of this. Running an update on your unit should not put it out of commission. If it does, Lowrance should replace like for like, they can then refurb yours and give it to the next guy this happens to.
May 7, 2014 at 8:50 am #1408961Sorry it was on the hds 5x. And after the fact they told me that it had happened before. I feel Lowrance is doing nothing because i can go on the internet and find the same deal as they are offering.
May 7, 2014 at 6:18 pm #1409146Not so much I went in with questions on adjusting it and they recomended an update.nothing wrong with . I just was not familiar with adjustments.
May 7, 2014 at 6:26 pm #1409148If they didn’t follow the specific instructions on updating a 5x then I would say the retailer is at fault and should be responsible for a replacement.
