lowrance hds gen 2 software update

    Can some body walk me through how to do a software update? I have a 4 gb memory card. Is that big enough. Also I havent updated the software since I bought the unit a year ago. Will I get all the new features of the old updates once I install 2.5? Thanks for the help guys

    The most recent update will have all the previous updates so just load the most recent one. 4gb is more than big enough for your card. I use an old 512MB card for my updates.

    Follow the instructions found HERE

    Don’t save the download directly to the SD card. If you have to extract it, it doesn’t always work right if you have it on the SD and need to extract it.

    Depending on your browser / PC, sometimes you don’t need to do the extract part, it will extract on its own during the download.

    John thanks for the reply. I downloaded it to my computer. And then I left clicked on the file and extracted it. I know have a second folder that doesnt have the zipper on it. Do I have to put it onto the sd card or should it already be on there? Sorry I’m not very good with computers. Is there anywhere I can find all the old updates and what features they added?

    I usually click and drag the file onto the sd card.

    I have two windows open to achieve this. The window showing
    the sd card (computer) and the window showing the file.

    Thanks Dan. I did what you said to do. I will try it out tomorrow and hopefully the update will be on the sd card. Too darn windy to do it tonight. 50 mph winds here today

    You can put your sd card back into your computer and double
    click on it to see if the file is on the card.

    I get a message when I double click on it that says windows cannot open this file. Did I do something wrong? I’m actually using a sd card reader. Not sticking it into the actual computer. Does this matter?

    Card reader is fine. If it’s showing the file is on the card you should be good to go.

    Sounds like you’re trying to open the file from the card.

    Thanks for all the help Dan! I honestly think it’s on the card and I’m good to go. I will go try it after it warms up a bit. I will let you know if I have any problems or questions.

    Just went out to the boat. It worked! The software is now up to date. Another quick question. Is there a way you can sign up so lowrance notifies you when there’s a update? Or do you have to just keep checking back?

    Usually somebody posts something in this forum when the new software updates come out. That’s how I typically find out.
