    Hello all,

I am planning a trip to Canada and am in need of a mapping chip. I did search and found some questions that were answered but these were a bit dated. Just wondering if anyone could chime in with newer information?

It looks like the chip I would need is the Navionics HotMaps for Canada. Are there other chips out there that are available?

I am using the Gen 2 HDS units.

    Thanks for your input…..

most lakes in canada are not much better than the basic in unit maps. i haven’t found any worth investing in. You can look into specific lake your fishing to see if is included. Otherwise I wouldn’t invest in one.

Ah your timing is perfect, get the Navionics + which includes SonarCharts which Canada just allowed to be used. SonarCharts is a 1′ contour on many Canadian lakes, lakes have been being loged for many years but do to some regulation Navionics couldnt use it now they can! Not all lakes have SonarCharts but many do. The other beauty of Nav+ you can put Canada and US all on one chip, you select the lakes you want and load it to the chip.

You also get free updates for a year, Depth Shading, Shallow Water highlighting as a bonaus with a HDS.

Navionics has a webapp to preview lakes but you cant zoom in on Canadian lakes. But if you want some screen shots I can get some for yah. http://www.navionics.com/en

Are 1′ contours included for the north & east sections of Lake of the Wood (Sioux Narrows to Kenora)?

John you can now view the Canadian side on the web app, so when you get to the spot you like on the web app zoom in and click on the sonar Icon on the lower left for the extra detail and this is whats available on Nav + and Hotmaps Platinum

Thanks for the guidance. Works slick. The area in question does show detailed contours. Do you know if the info is based on extensive survey work or computer extrapolation?

    Probably a combination of both
