LSS-2 placement question

Folks, Looking at the back of my boat, I want to move the skimmer to where the paddle wheel is. Then I want to mount the LSS-2 where the skimmer currently is. But notice the screen around the livewell intake hole. That screen protrudes 2″. Is the screen going to create a significant blockage on the StructureScan or will I be ok there?
I really need the screen as I’m not shy about fishing on shallow weedy lakes and had problems with the livewell plumbing getting plugged.

I would say you have the right idea. If you place the lss 2 there you would be so close to being even with it or even slightly above that the only blockage you would see would be a long ways out to that side or very high in the water column. In a perfect world you would have no obstructions but working with what you have I would say that would be the best spot unless you can get it closer to the center, in turn getting it even lower and possibly not even bother with the screen.

If you do find issues with the screen, being you want to keep it you can retro fit an inverted screen too.

    Hi,
I don’t own a Lowrance but from what I have read isn’t a LSS2 over 10 inches long (?) and maybe more with the mounting bracket? I would be looking at the lower unit of your outboard being a bigger obstruction than the live well screen. I know on the plastic boats they mount the LSS2 in the “transom step area” to get away from all the “end of boat” issues.

    Just a thought,

Mark, how do I do an inverted screen? I’m not worried about the motor since I can trim that up.
There must be thousands of Lund owners out there who have installed StructureScan and know if the livewell intake causes a bad image.

How about trying the Port side?

Needs to be on right side. Even on the left side though, the screen would still be in the way.

It’s my understanding that even though the LSS-2 is long, the beam it shoots is actually very narrow. So then does anyone know for sure (no guessing) exactly where on the LSS-2 does the left-side beam shoot out from? If it’s not close to the transom then I’m probably good.

You can always turn it around and change the menu setting to invert the display. If you mount it on a step you have to do that. Not sure if you can mount it backwards with the bracket though. I know my big motor gets in the way of mine if I don’t trim it up quite a ways.

The LSS-2 has 2 crystals on each side that why they’re better than the LSS-1 ,I believe the comment earlier that the top of the left signal is all that will be effected,

Had an exchange with a Lowrance engineer via a support person. After looking at my pics he said it should work fine. Whenever I get it installed and tested I’ll post an update.
