I have had issues with both my HDS-8 and my HDS-10 going dim on their own. It was intermittent and quickly fixed with a power off / power on. Not an end of the world type issue. I always figured it was a software glitch and didn’t want to go through the trouble of contacting customer service. After seeing BKs post about his HDS taking a dump with the exact same issue, I figured I better get in touch with Lowrance.

I fired off an email in the evening and had an response by 9:00 the next morning stating they probably need to be sent in. They asked for the SN off both units and as soon as they had them, I had a return authorization for both units. The longest part of the process was the time it took the USPS to get the units there. Once they had them, I received daily emails on the status and they were on their way back to me within three days of them receiving them.

I got them back today and was happy to see two brand new units, which was not a surprise knowing how they handled BK’s. The HDS-10 was just the head unit, but the HDS-8 was the full setup new in box. It was also the Insight mapping version rather than the base map. Thought that was pretty nice considering my HDS-8 was one of the original GEN 2 units and was 2 years old.

Two thumbs up to Lowrance customer service. It was quick, painless, and I couldn’t have asked for a better result for an intermittent problem.

If anyone ever needs a replacement skimmer transducer, let me know. I now have three that have never been used since I run a through hull.

Shoot me a pm with the price. I’ll take two. I know I’ll go through one myself and since I’m at Everts, Redneck going through the back channel or someone will need one.

Considering what we were going through just a few short years ago, what a 360 Lowrance has made.

I have an G2 8″ that dimmed on me a couple of times this
    summer.

Should I send it in? Pay the shipping + insurance?

Dan send them an email with the S/N and the issue. they’ll send back a RTA.

I shipped my ups with insurance for 3/4 it’s value. Let Lowrance take care of the rest.

Ran me 70 bucks to ship an 8 and a 10 in the same box with 3k for insurance. Seemed like a worthwhile investment to me.
