Looking to purchase the Structure Scan Module and install it into my boat. For the people that already have structure scan, could you give me the Pro’s and Con’s of this unit? I have been contemplating on buying this unit but I think I am getting close to pulling the trigger. I believe it would be a huge upgrade in my electronics but I want to get some input from fellow IDO’ers first. Thanks!

What head unit do you plan to run off of it?

I have had a SS1 for 4 yrs w a gen1 HDS7 I didn’t think it was worth the money, the unit was in the front of my boat so it didn’t lend itself to driving the boat around and looking at the info it provided. 2 yrs ago I got a HDS8 and mounted it on a ram mount by the consill now I think its the best thing I have to search and this year I feel it has helped me catch more fish !I have both units hooked to the SS module also I have my LMS520C hooked up with HDS units w nema2000 network.

Got mine this spring for the hds7 and its amazing how much better it works. You can not go wrong for the money. Got mine and got a $150 rebate check in the mail as well, I do not know if they are doing the rebate any more.

I have a hard time fishing w/o the structure scan since installation. I don’t use side scan as much as I am still learning, but down scan is very good when fishing in deeper water. I really like when walleyes are laying belly to the bottom, they stick out better on down scan compared to traditional 2d sonar. Often times they don’t show up on 2D sonar and are laying that tight to the bottom, this is where down scan shines.

I added a HDS 8 directly through Lowrance when my 332C took a dump. Went the SS II route through Reeds Outpost.
It is a lot of technology to pick up but I do like it. My only comment would be when rigging the new unit I’d leave pull wires behind, if you pull through gunnels, etc. This is from my experience and what others and Lowrance have said where the yellow ethernet cables have been having failures.
I’d buy one again, if that means any thing.

i bought the unit 2 yrs ago and barely used it. I have recently purchased the gen 2 touch with it built in. I’d sell it to you w/o the transducer $100

Bighan, if you talk to most anglers that use it they love it, is it perfect for all situations no. But it gives you a whole new way to look at the bottom. Here is a link to Doc Samsons website, he does a great job of explaining it and if you get it get Doc’s DVD

If I am fishing I am looking at the SS screen with 2d side by side. When I see a fish on SS I am 100% positive its a fish with no questions asked. Absolutely love it. I use it in the down scan screen 99% of the time. I hardly ever use it in the side scan. I run it on my HDS8 Gen 2 and my HDS7 Gen 1.

Con’s: Not sure I can even come up with one
