Another Lowrance question

I couldn’t really answer my question on the Lowrance site, but I suspect the knowledge base here will know these quesitons.

With the Elite 7, can it be networked with an HDS unit to share maps and data, or would I have to have a map chip in each unit?

Also, I don’t really see why not, but will an elite 7 (not HDI) work on the US2 sonar in my terrova?

    Thanks

Yes it will work with the universal sonar. I had one on my last boat and it worked great. The Elite 7 has a viewing area that is actually larger than the HDS7. For the money this is a good option. the only downside is no netwroking.

Yes, when you network two units you dont share the maps (that requires two lake chips). It will share waypoints, and allow you to choose with transducers you want the unit to read (you can both units read off the same one or two different ones). It’ll work on your terrova as well.

Sharing of maps requires ethernet conections which the Elite 7 does not have. Other than that, a great solid unit for its price.

A elite 7 will not share waypoints with any other unit. The only thing you can do or share with that unit is you CAN share a GPS puck through the nmea networks but NOT waypoints or transducers.

That has been my understanding of how that unit works anyways.

Will a new elite 7 read an version (7?)(last one they made) lakemaster for Lowrance chip? Between the Mississippi boundary waters and MN thats 90% of my fishing so I could get by for a while with that and just 1 new lowrance chip in the HDS.

That was my thinking with the elite, I could get a 7″ screen up front at less than a HDS5 price. Sucks on the networking though.

I dont know that answer for sure but being the elite 7 is new this year I dont see why it wouldnt read that chip.

Ok through the NMEA 2000 an Elite 7 will share a waypoint to an HDS, you cannot do anymore than than that. You need Ethernet to share mapping and that is Gen 2 platform with the correct software and BTW that is only Navionics mapping that will be shared. Will it read Lakemaster dont know for sure, an HDS will read it how long until that ends dont know?

Yes it will work with a US2 in Min Kota

So even HDS to HDS sharing the card only works with Navionics? If I had the new Lowrance insight chip it wouldn’t be able to share that?

Yes you can share the Insight chip, sorry for the confusion
