Hello I have a lowrance 332c with gps finder I put a new transducer on it thinking that was the problem but it was reading the bottom and fish just fine while im jigging then all of a sudden it looses the bottom tracking.

Say im fishing in a 120′ of water then all of a sudden the screen will change to 1.5′ ft deep water and wont change back until I start moving sometimes or turn the unit on and off. sometimes it will do it for a minute or so and then flash and come back on reading the bottom just perfect.

has anyone had this problem or can you help me try to figure out this problem? any information would be greatly appreciated.

I do have this unit hooked to my engine starting battery and when its having this problem its 12.2 volts or more. I have tried a separate battery to and it still does it

    PLEASE HELP thank you trfishin

Try a soft reset, if that dont work try a hard reset.

    Welcome to IDO…

I would back up my waypoints/trails etc. Then execute a hard restart to basically re-boot the system. If you do a hard restart w/o backing up waypoints/trails/icons, you will lose them.

Hard reset. from powered off position hold down ZOUT and ZIN and POWER button untilt he US base map appears and the unit powers on.

That is a place to start

I have the same unit….I live in Iowa and have no problems at home in the river and lake but…….as soon as I get on the lakes in Minnesota it does it all the time (drives me nuts)

Thinking it has something to do I with all the weeds and soft bottoms.

How would I save my way points …on a SD card ? And after a hard reset I I would lose all my settings ?

hey thanks guys for the information I really appreciate it.

as soon as I get on the lakes in Minnesota it does it all the time (drives me nuts)

it sure doesn’t make since for sure and it does drive me nuts to. fishing for these lake trout you need to be able to stay put on top of them when its going haywire its like driving at night with the lights off I don’t have the gps hooked up as this fish finder came off my brothers boat he has 2 of these units and only used one so He gave me one but I don’t have a gps puck for it last time I looked they were about $180 just for the puck. I was thinking of running like it is until down the road I decide to buy a new finder then I will get one with an internal gps antenna built in that will be one less thing that I need hooked on my little 14′ aluminum boat

The first question is always have you checked to make sure you have the latest software update (1.9 from 2007 I believe)? If so, Look for a “shallow water mode” setting. That fixes a lot of bottom tracking issues on the LCX series, but I don’t know if your model has that.

You also need sensitivity turned up high enough to get a good bottom reading. If you can see the red/yellow bottom you should be good. I always set sensitivity high enough (usually 68 in 15 ft) to where the screen is peppered with a little clutter.

If you have two sonar units using the same frequency, you’ll need to do a “stop scroll” on one of them else they interfere with each other.

Make sure the transducer is pointing straight down, preferrably slightly forward.

hey thanks for the info. I haven’t tried updating anything on this unit but I will do some checking for sure. as for the shallow water mode I don’t remember seeing that on here either. I also run the sensitivity up pretty high just where you start to read a little bit of clutter on the screen but still can read the fish and my jig. thanks for the info I will try it out and let you know how it goes thanks Trfishin

You will have to do a software update from Lowrance’s website to get the shallow water setting. It wasn’t available when the units were new.
