what’s the street value of a 1 year old terrova 101? Thinking a switch back to motorguide will be in order once it is out.

Looks like I might be. I was hoping to hear the Lowrance/Motorguide had a “contour follow” feature.
You sure about that? Pinpoint used 5 transducers to follow a selected depth. Minnkota uses the a communication between the mapping in the GPS. None of that stuff was around when Pinpoint was issued their patents. I’m pretty sure Minnkota could of easily worked around any intellectual property issues. Does the Lowrance have a spot lock feature? If it does Johnson outdoors will kick their a ss in court.
Got the chance to see the new Xi5 yesterday live on the water, it is impressive, you cannot hear it operate, when it turns it is silent no motor drive noise. Anchor mode is tighter than Terrova, Jog Feature is sweet, foot pedal is awesome.
Stow and deploy is easier and more solid than the Terrova. It doesnt get lost in the waves.
There where 3 experienced Terrova users in the boat and all walked away impressed, the Lowrance integration will be due out in spring and will be awesome

You are correct. Minnkota is using GPS, Pinpoint used transducers. There was a guy in 1994 that filed a GPS controlled trolling motor patent and I think that patent or a similar one was what kept anybody from selling a GPS guided trolling motor for years.
Many of you may not remember but Motorguide bought out Pinpoint and eventually made a Motorguide version of the pinpoint motor.
I’ve owned both Motorguide and Minnkota and liked both. The biggest problem is getting someone to work on your Motorguide. The guys at Motor Clinic absolutely hated to deal with Motorguide trolling motors. Maybe that has changed, I don’t know. I also like Minnkota’s composite shaft better.
One thing I hope Motorguide does, is use their old Pinpoint foot steering system. It’s like a cable steer but electric. It allows you to steer the motor without looking at the trolling motor, a huge advantage and one that solves the bass vs walleye application.
Otto I had a Pinpoint in the day and liked it for the most part. On the footpedal it operates like the old Pinpoint footpedal, I am looking forward to this also
That is great news and in my opinion would make it a much better trolling motor for a bass guy than the Minnkota given it is reliable.
My only complaint about the old pinpoint trolling motor pedal is it didn’t have a big enough range of motion and the turning speed what fast enough. I’m sure the latter has been fixed, do you know anything about the range of motion? This was something I’m sure I could get used to, the pinpoints I used were on friend’s boats…
So, when the motor is controlling itself and you want to go back to foot controlled steering, do you just step on the controller/button?

Jog Feature is sweet
How does this work?
When you are in anchor mode, everytime you push the direction arrow it moves 5′ in that direction, so push it 5 times it move 25′. Pretty cool way to work a wing dam

It turns 360 in 4 sec vs 6 sec for the Terrova. The pedal functions much like the Pinpoint did. It has a Manuel feature on the pedal and fob.
What if Lowrance/Motorguide came out with a smart phone app that allows you to tie it all together and control the system with your phone. Would that be cool or what?
ROTFL – with all the phone hijackings going on these days. I can see some dude on the bank taking control of your trolling motor and running you aground. No Thanks…….
