One map chip, 2 HDS units

According to the notes for the new software update for the HDS Gen-2 and HDS Touch, you will now be able so share one map chip between two networked units. If that is correct, I will have a couple month old lake-insight pro chip to sell.

    • Chart-sharing – Offering both navigational and sonar enhancements, both software updates provide chart-sharing capability, which allows maps on memory cards to be shared across the Ethernet network for viewing on multiple HDS Gen2 or Gen2 Touch chartplotter displays. Insert any compatible Insight, Navionics® or Jeppesen® chart into one unit and view on any other networked HDS Gen2 or Gen2 Touch display.

    Insert any compatible

Do you have to have a new chip made for shareing?

I don’t think so. As soon as I get a chance to download the update and install it, I will let you know. Hopefully tomorrow.

Wish this could be done with the Gen 1 units!

installed the update on both my HDS gen 2s tonight. Map sharing works like a charm. There are some other features that I haven’t checked out yet since I was sitting in my barn. Now I can sell my lake insight pro 2012 chip since I don’t need it anymore.

Are you saying that your Gen2 units will share the older LakeMaster cards?

The Gen2 units that aren’t technically supposed to read

    LakeMaster cards.

I would guess that if the unit can read it, it can share it. Pretty sure all they did was allow the SD card slots to be read across the ethernet connection.

Funny thing is that I just bought my first “Insight” card
the other day and neither of my units will read it.
I put the old LakeMaster in them and it’s all still there.
    v.2.0.

I must have a defective card.

I would put my money on a defective adapter card. If you have another micro SD to SD adapter card laying around, try using that. I have seen numerous issues with the adapter contacts on cards for my trail cameras.

You were right John! It works with my SanDisk adapter.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
