Can’t get it to load. Any help or pointers. It is the only thing loaded on a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card.

After you downloaded it to your computer did you extract all files? The downloaded file is a zip file. I believe the file after its extracted is a UPD file.

Yesterday, I downloaded the update for Gen 2, extracted it and then copied the extracted file to a 4 GB SD card. Installed the SD card in the HDS 5 Gen 2 and it installed without any problems. Also installed the update on the HDS 8 Gen 2. Ran both of them today on the water without any problems.

Beat me to it, I was going to add you must use an 8gig card to do updates.

I just purchased a HDS 7 G2 touch and believe I need to run updates? It’s been a long time since I’ve had to. Could someone walk me through the steps using a MacBook? I have a 2 gb SD card – looks like I need to get an 8 GB? THANK YOU!!!

Just spoke to Lowrance customer service in regards to MacBook software update. Should be able to go right to Lowrance.com and download the update, extract the file, then save file to your SD card. You also do not need a 8gb chip. If you have a 2gb, 4gb, or 8gb you are fine, no need to buy an 8gb just for the update.

The card just needs to be 8gb or less. I routinely use an old 512 MB card to do my updates.

Thanks for the replies. Two follow-up questions:

    * After downloading the software, could you please take me through the steps with a Mac?

    * Does the SD card need to be blank? I have waypoints stored on it and a software update for my Gen 1.

    I have a HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch & A HDS 7 Gen 3 touch.
I used a 16GB card and downloaded it to one of my computers with windows 7 and copied the files to the SD card. The Lowrance unit will not reconize the SD card and update itself.
Also tried it on a Macbook Pro. Same thing.

Did you extract all the files after downloading prior to coping them to your SD card? Also, check your user manuals to see if a 16GB SD card is supported, you may have to use a 8GB SD card.

    Used a 8g on the Hds7 gen 2 touch.
    It didn’t recognise it neither.

When the zip file opens, it’s one file with sub directory’s under it.
Copy that who file Yo the SD card.
    No luck.

Found out one of the SD card I had wouldn’t work.
And you need to format your SD card before you use it again.
Even though you have used it before.
I used a 16gb Samsung SD card I got at Walmart.

Found out that you have to go to downloads. Highlight the zip file. I think it was right click and you change the path to the SD card directory and when it opens it will open to the Sd card and put the files there.

Just so you know, HDS does not support cards over 32GB. Using smaller ones obviously is no problem, but something larger than that will cause issues. This is probably why those who tried the 64GB card it didn’t work.

One of the problems I had is the update did not start all on its own the first time. Make sure you have all the files extracted to the root of the SD card. Do not extract them INTO another folder, that will cause some issues.
If the update does not start automatically, simply go through settings then find “Files” and locate the SD card which will have the files you extracted. You should be able to select the file and kick off the update in this fashion.
