I’m looking at getting a new depthfinder for my main console. I have a cheap eagle sonar on the bow next to my trolling motor and I have a h2o handheld I use for gps mapping.Should I be looking at getting a DSI unit like the Lowarnce elite 5x which I can get for $250 new or go all out and get the Elite 7X where it has traditional and dsi for $549??? There are so many options I’m just trying to find the right one…….what would your suggestion be??

It all comes down to your budget, if you can swing you want to go with the Elite 7. Those units are selling like crazy, its an all around great deal with the wide screen and having down imaging built right in. You will never be disappointed going with the bigger screen size, but both are great units

I would consider where you do most of your fishing in your boat. I spend 95% of my time in the front of the boat casting or rigging or whatever so I decided I would add a new HDS 5 unit up there instead of at the counsel. Just my 2 cents. If you are convinced you want to put the new unit at the counsel then those new Elite 7’s with the downscannig and mapping look like a heck of a value. I believe that they are designed for a transom mount of the transducer so they might be a better option for the councel than the bow.
