I have a hds 5 on my bow and a hds 8 on my console plus both are ethernet to a lss 2. I bought ethernet so I could split the screens on the 5 or 8 and read the transducers for the 8 on one side and transducers for the 5 on the other side. However when I get on the water I can only read the 5’s info on both or the 8’s info on both, but not both on a split screen. I’ve read all the info on the units and can’t seem to find anything on this maybe it can’t be done, I’m new to structure scan and ethernet so maybe somebody out there knows if it can be done and how or if it can even be done. Thanks for any info

Not sure exactly what you mean. You are trying to look at the 5 transducer(Bow?) and 8 transducer on a split screen while on 2D sonar? If so that cant be done as you select the sonar SOURCE and thats what you will read, cant be both. When using structure scan split screen with sonar you then will also have to choose between the 5 or 8 for sonar.

You can set it up to read the ducer that is local to each unit, but I don’t know that you can set it up to where you can read each one in a split screen. If you figure out how to do that, please share.

    John ,
I have found I can’t split the screen in 2d but I was told I could use structure scan on my bow hds and select structure and sonar on pages menu, makeing sure networking was selected off on bow hds and it will read structure form back and 2d sonar form the front and since structure and sonar were selected the screen is split. I tried it friday and seems to work pretty good. This shows what I was after depth and structure on one screen that is split form front and rear of boat.

you need to use the NEMA Network to view both ducers, using just a ethernet cable will only allow you to read one at a time.

Sonar can only be shared through an Ethernet Network. The NMEA Network carries GPS, Temperature, Sonic Hub, Sirius Satellite info. etc.

I have a similar problem. I have an HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch on the Console and an LMS 522igps on the bow. I hooked up the ethernet cable but can’t get any image on the 522 from the console. Do I have to go into each unit and change some setting? Any help out there. Thanks

Go into the HDS sonar menu and turn on shareing and the LMS will see the sonar from the HDS

There is no feature on the sonar menu called “Sharing” There is one called “Network Sonar” I did check this but still get no image on my bow mount LMS 522igps unit. Still searching for answers. Thanks to anyone with an idea.

Hi guys. I figured the problem. The 522i on the bow needed a software update. The current version was 1.0. I needed the 2.5 upgrade which allowed for the 2 units to share the same screen. My first attempt at download to a SD did not work, but I found out that if the SD card is High Definition it will not work so I will have to find a non-HD card or see if I can get a marine electronics store to download it for me.
