I see there is an extrnal GPS puck for the Elite sonars – LGC-16W. Does anyone have this, specifically looking to find out if there are any advantages to having this oer the interal one it comes with (faster update, stuff like that). Lowrance service was less than helpful when I asked them last fall. (If anyone has it, does it plug into the ‘other’ connection in the back (i think it says time/speed for that one)?)
If there’s no real advantage I think I’d just as soon save the 80 bucks, but if it updated faster or had other advantages might be worth it. I have had the GPS ‘lock’ up and then suddenly catch up a few times, most often seems like its when I’ve been working one area for a while.

You would have to set up a NMEA 2000 network to connect an external antenna. Don’t know much about the 16 antenna other than it costs about 70.00. Based on that I would say it is the same as the internal but would allow for flush mounting the unit.
Another advantage to networking is waypoint sharing for units connected.
