I see Lowrance is coming out with Lake Insight Pro 2013. Unfortunately it is not on there web sight that I can find. Anyone know what units it will work with? What I saw only said compatible with elite and mark units. Seems foolish that it would only work with those units and not HDS units. I have gen1 HDS units on my boat.

The 2013 insight chip will work in the Gen2 HDS units, but not in the Gen1 HDS units. The 2012 Insight chip however will work in both Gen units.

With that said, this is probably the most detailed chip I have ever used and it’s quite an upgrade from the 2012 insight chip.

it doesnt list them as being compatible with gen 1. have you tried them? i am in the market and would hate to buy one only to have it not work.

I would also like to know this prior to purchase.

I still want to know definitively and have emailed Lowrance. Waiting on a reply and will post when I hear from them. I did by the 2012 version and it has what I need- for now. I have a second unit that needs a chip so I emailed yesterday.

If a guy has a Gen2 HDS (not touch) with just the base map does the HD card have any benefits the PRO doesn’t? (Or are the added features only for HDS touch?)

Would that answer change if you were going to run it in the new Elite7?

On the 2012 version, the $150 one has shaded relief, the $99 one does not. That is the only difference I know of. I have both chips, the HD at the console and the pro at the bow. You need to be zoomed out a ways for the shaded relief to kick in, and my bow unit is always zoomed way in so didn’t see the need for spending the extra 50 bucks.

The HD chip also has satellite overlay, and fishing information. I tried the insight hd card on Mille lacs vs. my Navionics , and lakemaster to compare. When compared side by side in gen2’s…. I would run lakemaster or Navionics before I would run the lowrance chip. Lowrance looked funny… Didn’t have but only a few of the flats labeled with names no matter the zoom. My opinion… Might save someone a few bucks.
