The 12 is the same size as the 10 is now. It’s just all screen and the touch screen doesnt work with gloves on. I’ve had a chance to play with the 7 a couple of weeks ago and it didn’t work at all with gloves on.

They make gloves for smart phones that I would bet work on this unit.

There’s something call “touch screen glove” that are meant to be used with these units. Not sure what that is.

Personally, I would rather have the buttons to keep the screen from getting all printed up. But that’s me and I haven’t used one.

The one thing I noticed that peeked my interest is the “Genesis” navigation. I need to see what that’s all about.

Thanks Out Fishing. We posted at the same time. Answer one question before I commented on it. LOL!

Wonder if its a different kind of screen so it doesnt get as finger printed? If not there is no way I would want one. I cant stand finger prints on my screen.

It won’t be any different than your smart phone or iPad. They all need to be cleaned at some point. I see the gen 2 touch being no different. If you can’t take 10 seconds to clean your screen then these units aren’t for you. But then again either is a smartphone or iPad.

The ease of use is probably one of the best features but also no more side scan module to attach! Now you can take side scan to fly in camps or any other remote locations without the hassle of the box!

I’m also really excited about the video in option on the 9″ and 12″ models. That would be awesome for open water as well as through the ice!

I have a screen cover on my smart phone…and hate it. But there isn’t an alternative. <sigh>

On the other hand I have to clean the water spots off the display’s anyway.

“WOW! Look at that fish! Oh, it’s just a water spot.” LOL!

I have herd that the screen on these doesn’t show water spots and smudges while turned on. Only when turned off.. The video where they show the underwater camera on it I guess there are a ton of finger prints on the screen but cannot see them..

What i would like to know is what happens when water gets on the screen and you try to touch a different button? I know on my phone if there is standing water on my screen it will continue to keep pressing whatever button the water is on top of until that water is completely gone. Does the same thing happen with these locators?

Navico has been using these screens on their Simrad units and they work great with a wet screen

    Hi Guys,

I just ran across this discussion on your new Gen 2 Touch. Note the training videos on the first page.

    Here is the link:

Enjoy (note: I am NOT a LOW guy anymore) .

    Thanks Roger …

This shot is too big to post here, it is the full 1280 x 800 resolution on the new HDS Gen2 Touch. I took this screenshot on Saturday on Inanda Dam, KZN, South Africa.
