with the original HDS10 I have now… I listened to the video, it’s says all I should need is the “New” transducer to increase my range and detail… Is this correct ?

And if so..

Would I gain anything by adding the new Gen2 unit ?

I’m sorry but I must not be very bright. I’ve been trying to talk myself into getting the structure scan to go with the HDS 5 I have,but can’t decipher what I’m seeing even in Lowrances marketing ads. Every now and then I see what they say I’m seeing but usually I’m trying to figure out what I’m looking at…Is there a DVD or website that walks a dumb guy like myself through how really use and understand the structure scan?

Hey Uncle Dave,

With Gen 2 you can overlay your structure scan screens onto your mapping screen. Gen 2 also loads your mapping screens quicker then the original HDS units.

Would there be a chance that I may get a brain overload..thats a lot of data to throw my way in a hurry !!

it`s pretty cool stuff with a small learning curve like anything new meaning the structure map overlay feature. As for the question about Gen 2 being an upgrade yes. Things like faster processing speeds and such are huge like getting a faster internet connection so to speak. What I know about the new LSS 2 guys is the biggest benefits of this versus the original is deep water applications which most of us won’t utilize more applicable to like the ocean . So Gen 2 Lowrance yes defiantly but not necessarily for the LSS2.
