Are there any Mac users out there who know how to make the software update process work on my Mac? I download the update script just fine, but when I run it on the Mac it says

    InstallShield Wizard

    Initializing InstallShield Wizard…

    Searching for Java(tm) Virtual Machine…
    ……………………………..
    …………………………………
    ………………………….
……………………………No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system.

This is for an Endura Safari, but it’s always been a problem with my other Lowrance units also. I did make sure I have all the updates from Apple for 10.6.8.
I called tech support and the guy said he has never heard of any such problem so I need to find a Windows machine to do my update. Not what I wanted to hear.
Btw, I got connected to a live person right away – no waiting! So Lowrance really is serious about having the best customer support. But it won’t be THE best if they cannot resolve my issue.

I recently did the HDS update on my wife’s MacBook Pro. I think I saved the update to the desk top and then hooked up a card reader, via USB, and then I dragged the files from the desktop onto the card.

    Does this help?

Nope, that doesn’t help. What I download is a .command script file. That script is supposed to be run at the command shell and copy stuff to the card. But it’s that script that doesn’t work.
The Endura Safari 1.1 instructions gave me a handy Install.exe that I could copy to the card directly, but 1.4 and 1.5 versions don’t have that feature to avoid the goofy script.

“Once the zip file is saved to your computer, click on the Zip file to open it and select to Extract the Installer.exe file to a folder. Do NOT save these files directly to your microSD card as it will save them within a new Endura 1.5.1 software folder (the actual file name will vary by model and region). If the files are loaded onto the microSD card but are in the new folder, the installer will not work when you power the Endura on to begin the software loading process.”

Did the above seem to work for you?

No, what gets downloaded is a .command script that’s run on the command line – not a zip file.
I gave up and borrowed a Windoze machine. Ick!!
