I have a hds7 on the helm with the transducer on the stern and a hds5 up front with the universal transducer in the trolling motor. What benefits would I gain by running an Ethernet cable between them? Can I choose which transducer to use between the units?

    Thanks

one big benefit is marking spots on your gps. mark it on one, it can mark it on the other. so then if you can find the spot fishing/driving in either spot.

Yes you could choose which transducer you want to use, either unit can run off of either transducer. Also when connected via ethernet you can syncronize waypoints/trails, and it will also let you display Structure Scan, Radar, or Sirius Weather on both units if you add those in the future.

You can chose to run either transducer, but I don’t believe you can run both transducers. For instance, you can’t use the bow mount one on the bow locator the transom mount one on the console unit at the same time. I believe it automatically defaults to sharing one transducer. If you can run them both at the same time, I haven’t figured out how. Have not really tried too hard to figure it out though.

    John,
I’ve got a 7 in the bow and an 8 at the console. I can have the transom transducer on the 8 and the universal sonar transducer on the 7 at the same time.

Is there an ether cable between them?

I have the structure Scan also. Both units connected to SS. I am pretty sure I can select either transducer for either unit. I’ve also had both units on at the same time.

You can select either ducer, but I’m pretty sure when you select one on one unit, it will switch the other unit to that same ducer. At least mine always does. At least I haven’t figured out a way to make it not automatically share.

You can see on transducer on both units (Enable Sonar Networking & select source) or different transducers on each (Disable Sonar Networking). All a matter of settings.

That makes sense. Seems obvious now that somebody tells me what it was. I never really looked that hard though. I just got used to it and always select the one I want to view if it is showing the other one.
