HDS 7 issues?

Thought I’d throw a vague, general question out there and ask what you guys have seen/heard about HDS 7 units having any kind of issues (dying, power draw issues, etc). Some stores are offering them for $600 now instead of $1k. I know part of this may be because of the new Gen 2 series, but had to ask if you guys had other reasons for this. I do believe I’ll go with Lowrance over ‘bird, but want to find out all I can since I’m so close right now. Thanks–

I have both a HDS 5 and HDS 7 and have had zero issues with them. I did have a little problem trying to update them to the newest software but called Lowrance and a guy helped me through the whole process. The problem was my lack of computer knowledge. Have have throughly enjoyed both units and the structure scan.

I had an issue with my 7, but lowrance replaced it for me when I sent it in.

I picked up 2 more when the deals were running so I can have dual screens either in front or back running sonar on one and mapping on the other…

Between my dad and I we have had/have a HDS 5, 3-7’s and 3-8’s. My first HDS 8 did the go dark screen a couple times but after I updated it it’s been fine(my buddy owns my old boat and graph now so if there was an issue I would never here the end of it!)

Other then that they have all been great units and I will continue to buy Lowrance.

You are exactly right when you say “because of the new Gen2 Series” They are trying to clean out all inventory of there HDS Gen1 units. There are still more HDS7s available than the other HDS’s simply because they made that many more of them. The HDS7 is a big seller because of the price difference when you go up to an 8 or 10. Now would be a great time to pick one up, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these units they are just non-current. There were a couple things that needed to be ironed out when they first launched HDS but for the past couple years they have been pretty flawless.

X2, first one died and Lowrance replaced it no questions asked. Since it has run without issue

Thanks guys, I do appreciate it. I’ve got confidence in Lowrance stuff, but when you have the luck with electronics that I’ve had, well….you gotta be cautious.
I may have to see what I can get done…maybe get my old 332c on the market to help pay for a new unit.
