Lowrance networking with a HDS 10M

Just registered on Idofishing. Looks like there are a lot of you who are very smart about HDS units. I have fished with mine for a year, but I don’t think I have figured out how to properly network them and get the most out of them. What confuses the issue is that I made a mistake in buying a HDS10M (chartplotter) which does not have a port for a transducer. This unit is on my console, I’m running a HDS8 on the bow, and also like to use the transducer from my Terrova. I have these units hooked up to LSS1 unit. In short, it’s a mess-I can’t believe I catch fish! I need some advice on how to hook this up the right way.

Do you have the NMEA 2000 buss installed?
To clarify you have the HDS 10M (map only) Structure Scan with both units hooked to Ethernet to the LSS? Do you have a skimmer transducer on the back?
Is your LSS transducer on the back?
With the right settings and set up you can share screens.

    Welcome 1more Walleye!
You’re going to love this site. Lots of helpful info + occasional humor.
You have alot of options on your networking of the HDS 10 & 8. Are you using an external GPS Module?
I’m not that firmilur with the 10M either so may watch for a couple other guros to chime in. I have 2 HDS 10’s & a 8 netowrked so I can help, just want to know more about the 10M.
I’ll keep an eye on this post.
    Be well

The HDS “M” are mapping units are a mapping only unit/chartplotter but you should be be able to share sonar data on the 10m via Ethernet depending on set up and settings in HDS units. http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/HDS-High-Definition-System/HDS-10m-Multifunction-GPS-Chartplotter/

One option is you could use your Structure Scan transducer off the back in place of skimmer transducer if it is set right, it will read in excess of 50 mph. So once we can clarify your set up, and you few simple set up issues it should work.

If you have both units hooked up to the LSS-1, and the M series units can display sonar from another unit, you should be able to display it on the 10 as you have it setup. On a non-M class under the sonar menu, you can select the transducer you want to use. On mine, I have a 5 and a 7, so I can select either transducer feed to display on either unit. I would expect the only selection you would see would be for your bow unit. That is assuming the M series can run sonar.

Yep the 10M will display the sonar via enet, it just doesn’t have transducer input

Thanks for all the helpful info. I’ve gotten so far. To clarify my current setup, this is what I have going. I have the the HDS 10M at the console. It is connected via ethernet to LSSI-the LSSI transducer is at the transom of my boat. I am also running a skimmer transducer 50/200khz at the transom. The skimmer transducer is fed all the way to the bow to an HDS 8 and shared back to the HDS 10M via ethernet. I have no problem seeing structure scan on both units. What I can’t get, unless I am plugged into the transducer on my terrova in the bow is 2D sonar from the skimmer transducer. I am wondering if I need the NEP-1 expansion port, or if I have this networked incorrectly, I am thinking also of the switch to be able to go between the skimmer transducer at the transom and the transducer off the terrova at the bow, to see 2D sonar. Initially, I was able to see 2D sonar at the HDS 10M, then I replaced a broken transducer. I think I need to go into a setup menu and choose the model of transducer to make it work. Hope all of this confuses the issue more!?

You can network 3 HDS units with the LSS-1 so you don’t need an expansion port.

I would either put a 7 or 8″ next to the 10″ or just sell
the 10m and get a combo unit. If you buy a combo then you
can leave your 8 at the bow plugged into the Terrova pemanently.

    You can get a 1st gen 7″ for 600.00 + tax.

Instead of the switch I would just unplug the transom and
plug in the Terrova when fishing at the front.
The person at the back can view the sonar from the Terrova
    at the 10m via ethernet.

Good luck with your decision and welcome to IDO!!

Lets see if I can answer this, there is only one connection point for the transducer which is on the 8, the transducer can not be networked thru an expansion port that is only for the enet, you will only be able to see one transducer at a time either the Terrova or Skimmer, so like Dandorn says you will have to switch cables back and forth or get a transducer switch box. Or there is a heck of deal on HDS units now, add a 7 to the bow, network via enet, plug the transom transducer into the bow unit and the terova into the bow unit and you are good to go.

    Confused or clear as mud?

Thanks to all of you for your help. I think I have it figured out. I’ll probably be shopping for a new HDS unit.
