I have an HDS10 and BR24 radar. up until last week I could display radar or radar overlaid on chart. Now when I try to display radar overlaid on chart I get an error that Radar is invalid. I have no problem displaying Radar. What changed? or What could have broken?

The Radar invalid error generally is only displayed when the unit does not recognize a Compass heading sensor connected to the unit. You want to make sure that the unit is still communicating with the sensor. Most Heading sensors connect through NMEA 2000 so you can press MENU twice, select Networking and then Device List. Once the list fills you should see the heading sensor listed.

    Thanks Ken,
You are correct. The HDS is telling me “Heading Not Connected To Radar”. Can you tell me where the connection could be? I believe my Garmin GHP 10 autopilot sends data over a NMEA 0183 connection because of some non-compatibility issues between Lowrance and Garmin NMEA 2000 at the time the gentlemen at “Y” Marina installed it. (I know , GARMIN is a dirty word)

Thanks Ken, I was able to get the overlay feature working on my HDS8 poking around in the menu. Now I will see if I can get it to work on the HDS10.

Do you have any pictures of the radar dome mounted?
