Lowrance HDS & Universal Sonar

Currently I have a Lowrance 135 in my bow connected to a Minnkota Genesis with the Universal Sonar transducer and an LCX-15 at the console connected to a skimmer transducer in the back. I am planning to upgrade both Lowrance units to the HDS series. My question is, can I still use the transducer in the TM? If so do I need a different cable?

I will have the Structure Scan module also. Is there anything additional I will need to network the HDS units? Will I be able to select the SS transducer, the skimmer transducer, or the US of the TM on each HDS unit by just using the ethernet cables?

    Thanks.

When I moved to an HDS at the bow, my old universal sonar was not compatible with it as my HDS required the Universal 2 on the newer trolling motors, so you might need to hook a transducer to your trolling motor for an HDS to work with your Genesis.

I am not sure which parts you need for the network, but you can set one up that will allow you to choose which transducer you want to view on either of your units. Hopefully somebody who has done this will chime in.

When I upgrade the x-15 on my console to HDS this off season, I am sure I will have the same questions…

I would call Thorne Bros and ask them what they think. They will be able to tell you right off if it will work or not.

Not sure if that universal sonar will be universal to that motor.

As far as networking if you get the LSS-1 right away you will use that as your network. You can run up to 3 units through the LSS-1 box. I run one in the bow and one on the tiller dash with an extra set of cables at the dash to run both units in the back while trolling. Should be able to select either transducer with each units but after using the 3D downscan from the LSS-1 you will probably never go back to the transducer in the trolling motor.

Keep in mind that the LSS-1 box requires a power wire and other then that its pretty simple to hook up. Also highly recommend getting the external antenna for the HDS units and keep up on the software updates. If you going to make the change I would go the extra mile to the the performance you want!

I do plan to get the LSS-1 right away. I assume this to mean the network will comprise the LSS-1, & HDS units connected by the ethernet cables only?

    Thanks.

The LSS-1 box will become your “network hub” and connecting each unit to the box via ethernet cable (tan cable with yellow ends) will enable your network and it should recognize it when all is powered up. Allowing you to switch back and forth between normal transducer and LSS-1 transducer, share waypoints, share external antenna (if equipt) etc…

Thank you for confirming the network situation. That is what I thought.

Anybody know if the Universal Sonar in the Minnkota Genesis is compatible with the HDS units?
