HDS Unit not reading Lakemaster Chip

  • #1306854

    Hey guys,

I’ve got a little bit of an issue with my HDS-7 that i’m looking for some assistance on..

I noticed that I cannot get my HDS-7 to read my 2008 Lakemaster chip. When I place the chip in the unit, it asks me if I want to use this chart data, and I reply yes.

When I go to the chart settings it only gives me chip options for the preloaded Lowrance charts, and the Navionics chip that I took out when I replaced it with my Lakemaster chip.

I’ve tried to shut down the unit a few times with the Lakemaster chip inside, hoping it would recognize it and get rid of that Navionics chip option but it doesn’t.

I’m guessing that I may need an updated chip, but I’m not entirely sure. Any ideas or work arounds?

If you had a Navionics card in the unit and had that card option selected you need to switch the setting back to Lowrance and it will read the Lake Master card.

I agree with Stratos 375. You should be able to choose Lowrance as mapping choice, click on it and it should read.
If you haven’t already did the HDS 4.0 Software upgrade, also make sure to. It’s below. Will take some time to load onto SD card from Lowrances web page, but loads pretty quick into headd until itself. This is a must IMHO!!!

    Good luck

At first I would agree with the other responses in saying that you just need to select the Lowrance option and it should read it. But reading your post again and realizing your talking about the ‘7’ where there is only one slot for a chip. I don’t believe that there should even be an option for choosing ‘Navionics’ once that chip is removed. Different on the 8 and 10’s as there are multiple slots and there is the ability to switch between chips.

Do you have any other Lakemaster chip to use? I had a problem with my earlier MN Lakemaster chip where the map would randomly disappear (not recognize the chip) and it resolved with a new chip.

I also wonder if you have updated recently.

Which software version are you on? I just upgraded to 4.0 and one of my HDS7’s will no longer read and chips. After many issues with my units im thinking its time to switch to birds….

I have a 7, and you do need to select for the chip being used, even though there is only one slot…perhaps not with the 4.0 but previous for sure…

I have a Navionics Hot Maps in one unit and just purchased the Lakemaster 2011 chip and popped it in. I had to switch from the “Navionics” chip to “Lowrance” and it worked. Upon reboot it now loads the lakemaster chip. It still gives me the Lowrance or Navionics option but the lakemaster is loaded. ( I have an HDS 7 as well)

I have a 7 and a 5 and I have to chose with both. Justin have you fixed the problem or been able to get it to work yet?
