LCX 37C problems (Also, trying to install update)

I’ve been having a problem with my LCX 37C. When I’m going slow, it won’t lay down a trail line – it will have a straight line that follows my movement, and only lays down a trail AFTER I’ve made a sharp turn. So, when I’m going slow, there is no trail that depicts where I’ve been, but only a bunch of straight lines that shows where I made sharp turns. If I’m going fast, it lay’s down a trail. I called Lowrance and they suggested I download the updated software. (BTW, Track Smoothing has been enabled).

I’ve downloaded the software on a card but when I put it in the Lowrance and then power it up, it doesn’t update. When I search the system, it still says it’s running the older version. Initially, I thought that it just didn’t fully download, so I did it again and when I checked the memory stick on my computer, it showed that 3 files were uploaded. Anyone have any idea where I go from here? Thanks.

Make sure the card your using is small, they say you can use 2gb chips in these, I have the 113 and 37C, but I have had crappy luck with them. For updating use something less then 1gb. I had an encounter with CS at Lowrance about an update that would not install. I tried it a dozen times with the CS person on the phone. We were both getting p***ed so I asked to talk to someone else. His first question was what size card was I trying to use (2gb) and he asked me to try the install on a smaller one. Think I found a 256kb one laying around. Downloaded the software again to the new card and BOOM! worked like a charm. Hope this helps!

Edit BTW, what GPS antenae you running?? Think there was an update to the LGC-2000 that was supposed to be run BEFORE you run the update for the head unit. If you look at the list of updates and check the LGC-2000 link it will say to run it first. Almost certain of that. Not sure what demons from hell you will release if you do not update it first. Check for any updates to your GPS also before you try to run the update and make sure if there is one you get them installed in the proper order. Was a few years ago since I did this, but I sure recall something about running update A before B for something.

Edit: I looked, nothing on the LGC-2000 update about doing it before the head unit, the LBS-1 broadband sounder though does call for the broadband sounder to be updated before the head unit, in case you have the LBS-1. I knew something was there about updating the head unit last.

Iirc I had. A similar issue, I think I went to the sd card in the menu and was able to click on it and get it to install.

Depending on the browser you use, sometimes it just downloads an EXE file that you need to run to extract the update file. If you don’t see a file on your card the has a .upd extension, you don’t have the update on there.

Well, at this point I really want to pull my hair out. I’ve downloaded the update straight from the website no less than about 6 times now. Every time I get 3 files downloaded: Liger_v250t.bin, Phantom_2.ldr, Update.lop.

Wallgeye, I wouldn’t know a “broadband sounder” if it bit me in the rear…, so I’m at a loss as to what to do in regards to that.

John, evidently none of my files end with .upd, so following the directions as per the website do nothing at all, and calling tech support for help doesn’t do anything either (talked to them twice now).

FWIW, I do have a 2 gig card, but at this point, the card doesn’t really matter as it looks like I’m not even getting the proper upgrade downloaded to my computer…

Was really hoping to have this thing working properly soon. If you guys have any other suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks again.

I think you have the correct files. None of them end in .exe and have the .bin extension instead. Those file names look familiar to me. Try a smaller memory card, smaller then 1gb and try it again.

Edit: I grabbed a 256mb card I have and ran the installer. I ended up with the same files as you did. Pretty certain you need a smaller card. Don’t know why, these units supposed to work with cards up to 2gb in size but they don’t. At least not very well.

If you do not have the broadband sounder, then nothing to worry about. It is an add-on box that you plug your transducer cable to. Was just offering a heads up in case you had some other equipment that might need to be updated also.

Fantastic. I’ll be heading to Wallyworld in search of a smaller SD card. Thanks for all the help guys.
