Lowrance HDS-7 insight

Forgive me, I new to the HDS deal. I just installed a 7 on my boat. My question is, it has insight, is that built in or a card? thanks for any help..

just google lowrance insight and you’ll get lots of info some I see is old stuff. there is a new 4.0 update for the HDS units this week too.I have been useing navionics and lakemaster map chips,so I haven’t paid much attention about insights. Stan

It depends on which mapping package that was preloaded in the HDS 7 that purchased. If on the door of the card reader on the unit it says Insight USA then you have all the mapping loaded into the unit on the hard drive, inland lakes and navigable waters like the Louisiana Delta, Mobil Delta, Potomac River, San Joaquin Delta, Colombia River, etc. If is says Lake Insight then you only have the inland lakes part of the mapping. If it says Nautic Insight then you only have the navigable water ways. If it say Base Map then you don’t have any mapping detail preloaded into the unit and you will need to purchase a mapping card and insert it into the unit to have mapping detail. The unit will only have that mapping while the card is in the unit.
