How much more accurate is GPS with 4000 puck

For those that have used the HDS internal antennas and then later upgraded to a puck, was there a noticeable difference in accuracy? I am re-prioritizing my toy list and trying to figure out what to move up/down/remove

    Thanks

Certainly more accurate, but I can’t tell you how much more. Next time I have the boat out (Friday I hope) I can try the internal and then the puck and see if what my accuracy change is. It lays tracks smoother and doesn’t jump around as much and is faster to lock, IMO. I got it for $200 from Jolly Ann and there was a $50 rebate going on. I find it was worth the end cost of $150, without a doubt.

I doubt the LGC-4000 is any more accurate than the predecessor is in terms of comparing two fixed positions while not moving. I believe the main difference lies with the more frequent position updates. I upgraded this year too and immediately noticed smoother tracking on turns, especially at trolling speeds. I saw steadier speed readings (with more precision too) below a mile per hour as well.

I add waypoints frequently by moving my HDS cursor across the screen and tagging a waypoint on a side image echo. With more frequent location updates, each waypoint is more likely to rest on precise spot I saw on the graph. Accuracy in that regard should be improved from say a LGC-3000.

Way more accurate and way smoother.

While I was down in my pole barn installing the 4.0 update on my HDS units, I did a test on the LGC-4000 puck. With the units using the puck, I was able to lock on to 6 satellites INSIDE my barn without any doors open, and my position was spot on. When I switched to using the internal antenna, I got zilch. Went back to the puck, locked right back into the 6 satellites.

I conclude that it definitely does a better job of locking on satellites than the internal.

Night and day. I even noticed a big improvement when going from my 3000’s – 4000’s. The biggest noticable item for me is that when tracking in course up versus north up, due to it’s speed, the course up was imporved dramitically! The older antenas (2000 & 3000) would start making the “compass rose” (if you will) turn when not moving fast enough. It has been eliminated for the most part.

Thanks everyone. Guess it is moving up on the list
