    Guys.
I know been beat to death. Both good products, but looking for opinions on a few specifics. We fish primarily p3,4 , mill lacs, and rainy. Which unit will have better access to mapping for thes bodies of water? Which unit functions better with the universal transducer that comes with Minnkota trolling motors? Both show fish and structure , but which one does so clearer? We are currently running H-birds that are about 4 years old. Thanks for the insight.

As a die hard Lowrance guy, I don’t believe you’ll go wrong with either Andy(?).

Navionics has been working hard to keep their chips up to date as I’m sure Lakemaster has as well.

I have HBs on my boat. I’d give an edge to the Lowrance on 2D sonar capabilities. Side scan and structure scan capabilities seem to be too close to call. The Humminbird introduced some pretty cool custom mapping capabilities that Lowrance doesn’t offer, yet, for their touch screen units that might interest you. As BK stated, the race is so close to call that I think it comes down to personal preference.

I’ve had birds the last 6 years and was planning to switch to Lowrance, but my new boat came with a 1198 and 998, so that’s what I’m sticking with. I’m still not sure on the touch screen though. Glad that decision was already made for me.

I had Low units on all but my last boat purchased (2012) Bought two Birds for I-link. I would have to give the edge to the Birds love the clear picture and detail. Really like the down image superb detail. I have had zero problems with either unit and like the Lakemaster chip for Rainy Lake.

In addition to all the comments listed already, I have to throw in that the Humminbird Link component AND the mapping put the birds ahead of Lowrance for me, anyways.

I have run both over the years in 6 different boats, and I currently run two HDS units on the console (one mapping & one sonar/sidescan/downscan) and a ‘bird on the bow. My opinion, it comes down to personal preference. MY preference are the Lowrance units hands down. That said, ‘birds do have some cool features and are very intuitive to operate out of the box. Additionally, my understanding is that if you want to run Minn Kota’s ILink, you need a ‘bird.

If you ever consider running 360 Hbird is the only way to go. I made the switch in 2005 to Hbirds and me personally will not go back to Lowrance after running them for nearly 40 years.
