I have a Lowrance Elete 4hdi. I was wondering if the Lowrance maps that are loaded in this unit can be used on the Winipeg river system. I don’t need it for the depth just for marking way points. Navionics Canada chip doesn’t cover the Winipeg. Has anyone used this unit in this manner? Thanks Al

If all you are concerned about is marking waypoints you don’t even need a mapchip or worry about what’s on the basemap. Just save away!
The basemap and mapchips are what hopefully aid you in finding structure or hazards, but if that is not a concern of yours they are not needed at all.

What Navionics map do you have? Premium Canada? How Old?

Navionics does have mapping of the lake, on Premium only parts of it are, Navionics Updates/Plus will cover the whole lake. Here is a zoomed out example

Go to the web app to preview http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@10&key=_~%7CzHhvonQ
