I just bought a lowrance ice pack kit for my elite 5hdi. The pack came with a transducer and a unplug power cable. Do I need an adapter kit to plug the transducer and power cable from the ice pack, into my unit? On the product description it said (blue connectors) and works for elite series units…figured I’d be good to go?

Guess I’m not sure what you’re asking. Did you even try to hook it up yet?

My elite 5 hdi plugged right in. Forgot if you need to splice in the fuse or not.

I can send pics if ya need em. Actually have it here with me in the truck today.

I also have the same unit, I bought it last year but never had a chance to use it. I also bought the Navioncs north chip, any pics and any information about setting it up and operation would be great.

I had to use a separate power cable to power mine. Makes for a lot of cables behind unit but it is worth it.

    This is the part:
Elite 5 HDI power cable with 3 amp fuse and holder (PC-30-RS422)

I get the 3 wire and fuse hook up but what do I do with the other 5 wires, I’m as of now I’m just using it with the ice fishing kit. Sorry if it’s a dumb question but I’ve never had a GPS unit

Networking wires, just tape em up. I’d cut mine short if i knew the pack was going to be permanent, but I may setup on the boat at some point so there’s a pile of wires back there now, no biggie for me.

Settings that work for me working from up to down in menu….

    Adjust: later

    Auto sensitivity: off

Range: I manually set my range, it’s a bit of pain here and there but the auto had issues for me with how I set it up which IMO is optimal so I can deal with it no biggie. Scanning the weedline in 8-15′ set to 20′, scanning the basin in 20-30′ set range to 30′, etc.

Frequency: 200khz (thats all the ice ducer has)

    Ping speed: fastest

    Sonar options:
    Noise rejection- typically low
    Surface clarity-typically low
Split zoom-on, plus button zooms in to 2x and 4x, minus button zooms out. Up down buttons move the zoom screen deeper shallower.
    Split flasher-never used it
Color-white background(I’d experiment with this, I could see some people preferring different color palettes.)
    Amplitude scope- off
    Fish id- off

    Stop sonar: obvious on/off
Overlay data: I only show depth (small), and voltage (small). You can add what you want and configure size.

Now in the second menu option that has system, nav, etc.

    System: advanced mode-on
Sonar: manual mode-on fishing mode-ice (I’ve read some other forums which say shallow water is best but I like the ice mode, seems to have a faster screen, maybe I’m just cracked)

    No alarms.

    Back to the adjust now…
65-70% seems to get about average. I’d start at 65 and start there with each body of water. Clear water goes higher, dirty lower. Small jigs in deep water will really have to crank it up.

    Colorline: 74%
    Noise rejection: typically low
    Surface clarity: typically low
    Ping speed: fastest

Now for example last time out with an fl-8 the interference starts in hot and heavy. Noise rejection and surface clarity gets set to high, and sensitivity may need to get backed down as well just a tad. An lx-5 the time before that no big deal, settings were normal.

There ain’t no fancy dials, and it takes some time to get use to but once the menu is learned it becomes quite easy to readjust. The 2d is awesome. Ain’t nothing better watching a big ol yellow line come through on the bottom and rise up.

I believe the unit has an update to perform. Before you had to adjust the system to the ice ducer and maybe something else, after it’s just the hdi 83/200 ducer setting.

Good luck and have fun with it. When the screen ain’t on 100% brightness(press the power button once for setting) the battery lasts awhile.

Good stuff! Thanks for the help! I hooked mine right up to the unit. No adapter cables needed. I was confused and anxious because the manual said I would need adapters if I had a unit with blue connectors. Now to dial in the settings.

I just put the same setup together a couple of weeks ago. So far I am using it more for the GPS. I have it set for flasher mode, but I couldn’t get it to work very well. I think i will try the settings mentioned above this weekend.

Dumb question but Does your unit have an “X” in the model name? If so it doesn’t have gps. My elite 4hdi gets used for a portable unit in a small boat and as a backup ice unit and gps seems to always work fine.
For what it’s worth I just cut the extra wires off of my ice transducer.

When you press the pages button on unit and scroll left/right it doesn’t show a mapping screen?

Don’t know anything about the flasher, when you have 2d there’s no need.

    Did you update?

I updated the card before I installed it, I’m in a ground blind now so I don’t have the book or unit in front of me

Used the unit for the first time yesterday. I don’t think I will ever use a flasher again. I tried the split flasher and switched to the sonar zoomed in on bottom within minutes. I was fishing big gills hugging the bottom in deep water. This unit had great target seperation and showed the reaction of the fish better than any flasher I’ve seen. My eyes finally won’t bugging out from staring at a blinking dial all day. Plenty of awesome storage in the ice pack also! I really recommend this set up but with that being said…anybody want to buy a Marcum?

I’ve been using an Elite 5 Ice Machine for several years now and everyone has their own preferences. I prefer using the amplitude scope on mine. I want to see what’s happening in real time and I find the amplitude scope very easy to interpret. I look at the amplitude scope first and then look at the 2d screen beside it for another look at what I just saw.
