Lowrance HDS-5 Ice Pack

I was using my HDS-5 (gen 1, sonar only) ice pack today, and the screen went white/gray. It was also flashing when it did this. It would do this and then turn off. I would turn it back on and after a few minutes it would do it again. I checked the battery while it’s on and it is at 14.1 volts. I also tried a battery from my Vexilar and it still did the same thing. Does anyone have an idea on what the cause of this is.

Do you have the correct transducer picked?

Yup.

That is what mine does when the battery is low, but it sounds like you have checked that. Try a soft reset, if that doesn’t work try a hard reset, but you will lose all way points and trails. The lowarnce site has directions for the resets.

Bring it in a heated garage or house and hook it into a big deep cycle battery that’s good and see if it still does it if you can. Be careful with a hard reset. I’d guess it’s a connection or power supply issue. Cold amplifies connection and power supply issue’s.

Thanks. I can do that easily. This is off the bow mount on the boat so it worked this summer.
