Lowrance FS 9 — is it worth setting up for ice fishing vs my vexilar fl28

  • #2076220

I put an Elite FS9 on boat this year (love it). Trying to decide if it is worth buying ice ducer, etc. vs. just keep on trucking with my FL 28. The FS9 seems that limited advantages to what the Lowrance will do for me but I welcome input as I am not maybe am not appreciating what the FS9 can do. Just seems like an expensive unit to risk damaging hauling around ice fishing vs. just sticking with vex.

If I do not do convert the FS9, I welcome suggestions on a small unit to by that has GPS to mount to wheeler. I have another post going about holders for a cell phone to mount to my wheeler and simply using Navionics app on i-phone but am considering buying something else and just have it dedicated to being my mounted GPS – a ‘fish finder’ unit that has limited features but is chip compatible or has good lake maps built into it.

I take my HDS 7 Gen 2 off my boat to use in the winter. Mainly for the gps but I’ll also put it down for the sonar history so when I’m not paying attention to my lines.

There’s some benefits but it probably will never work as well as your FLX28 as a sonar unit.
