I just downloaded the latest Lowrance software update that helps with map refreshing speed. It is a .upd file extension. Can I just put the sd card in the unit as is or does this file have to be unzipped first? Has anyone put in this update? Any problems with it?
Once it’s on the SD card and installed ito the Lowrance. Turn the unit on and it will auto activate the update.
I haven’t upgraded.
Will the unit recognize the file? I remember having to unzip Lowrance update first. Then installing. Tried to unzip this file with no luck.
Didn’t know there was an update to be had, I looked over the Lowrance site for one.

Follow instructions below to download the zip file to your computer, unzip and copy the upd.
If it’s a upd it will recognize it. If it’s a zip it will not.

The Elite 5 & 7 is there.
Installed the update today. No glitches. Lowrance said it will improve map refreshing rates. It is a noticeable improvement, still not great, but much better than it was!
I have Elite-5. Software on it is copyrighted 2009-11. Got some microSD cards (16 and 32G). Put on the latest software upgrade and the GPS patch. When I insert them nothing happens. When I browse files, it says “(No cards ready).” Is there something I’m missing? Do I have to erase the folders that were on the SD card from the factory? Is there some way to format a card?
You need a smaller card. 2GB. I don’t think the latest updates cover the older elites though.
