I have had mine since they first come out when they were still 600 bucks, the lake master chip was another 100.
personally I think its a great unit and it has served me well all these years but if I had it to do all over again today,I would look around a little for something newer with more features.

the flasher side of it works great for ice fishing if you buy the portable kit for it,but again, there are faster units on the market today.
Lowrance has never let me down when it comes to customer service,ie,one time in northern Mn I was on a lake and had the advanced menu so screwed up it wasnt funny.

one call to them and they walked me through how to undue what I had done while I was on the water, bet that tech guy is still laughing today as I had a fish on shortly after he answered!!

you cant go wrong with it if it looks like what you want and you can update it through your laptop/computer when needed.

Great unit for ice. No open water experience. I’ve been impressed with it for what it cost, super cheap, and for a starter unit IMO would work great. Just run 2d and works just like any other unit.

Iowaboy1 is correct, coming from a HB the menus are a bit more tough to get use to, but not overly complicated and once you figure it out it works to your advantage. Almost threw mine across Leech first time trying it out.

Pic is a school of tiny perch, very sensitive. Once you drop a small jig down it registers like a huge crappie if you’re settings are too strong.

Buy the Lowrance pack. Spendy, but has all the cords and you can save the ones in box for your boat.

Have no experience with loading maps, really hope it loads quicker than my 597.

I use it on the ice and in the boat and it has been great so far. Was seriously considering another one to replace my bow unit.
