Guessing this is a dumb question but I have 2 Hook units side by side to install. Can I just install the power cord to the unit I plan on just using for the GPS? I understand I would need both cords for the locator unit. Wondering if GPS would just work with just power cord since unit has internal antenae for GPS? Thank you for any help.

My hook 7 works while in the house without the transducer hooked up. So I say you will be fine with your set up.

I don’t know about the Hooks but I use an HDS 5 that way, sort of. It is only used for GPS, with and HDS 8 doing sonar, SI, and DI. They are linked together with an ethernet cable so that they feed each other information. You may want to look into the Hooks options further, but I would expect it would work similarly.

In this setup the HDS 5 has no transducer and acts as GPS only. The HDS 8 ignores its GPS and works as sonar only. But they can talk to each other via the ethernet so that I can mark a waypoint on the HDS 8 based on sonar readings, see something on the SI and mark a WP, and that waypoint will show up on the HDS 5. Also speed and time from the HDS 5 will be shown on the HDS 8.

Then I went a step further by adding a NMEA link between the motor and the HDS 8 to read overlays of motor info on the HDS 8 screen, RPMs, trim level. No need for multiple dash gauges, and all of the information is shown on one screen, above the dash, keeping my eyes up when underway.

    Lowrance’s info integration is sweet.
