Lowering truck bed height?

Have any of you lowered your truck bed height? My 5er rides a couple inches nose high so I’m doing some research on how to easily lower the bed height. From the reading that I’ve done, it seems like some recommend removing blocks at the springs. I’m curious if the spacers in this picture are the blocks that they might be referring to?

you should be able to raise/lower the head of the hitch that is in the bed of the truck. I googled “how to adjust height of 5th wheel trailer” should just have to loosen a couple of bolts and lower the head of the hitch connector. Of course this depends on the model of hitch. Good luck.

Everything that can be adjusted or lowered on the trailer or hitch has been maxed out to their lowest setting. Now it is time to look at mechanical changes to the suspension.

On my 3/4 ton Dodge I have the spring blocks removed. I found the ride not what I wanted. I then had air bags installed. Much better. This is when pulling my 28′ 15,000 trailer hitch trailer (not 5th wheel) with forklift and tools loaded. I’ll fill the bags to 40-50 lbs of air with the trailer and run 15lbs or so when not pulling. Works for me.

Is that rig 4WD or 2WD. It looks like you have air bags, have you tried adjusting with those? What % of weight are you running on the truck? You should be able to remove those 3 spacers out but that might not be effective once you air up your bags??

4WD. Currently running with minimal/no air in bags. GVW on my trailer is 16,000 lbs. Guessing my pin weight is around 3,000 lbs and I get very little squat.

It is common for 2wd trucks to come with a smaller or no block, as long as there is not a centering pin that would get in the way and you have enough threads on the u bolts shouldn’t be any harm in trying it with out the spacers in there. I know that’s a beast of a truck but you would think it would squat a little with the 5er.

Would lifting the trailer be a better option for you? I have seen 5ers with lifts installed and it might be a better option than lowering a truck.

Sounds like a lot of guys go that route. My way of thinking is it requires lifting 2 axles and the trailer is already 13’ tall. Can’t envision that being easier or cheaper.

I stopped by a suspension shop today and they say it is an easy deal on lowering the truck. Cost for a few parts and labor was under $300. I will probably schedule it for next week.

If you lower the rear you may have to lower the front as well unless your truck has a lot of rake (front lower rear higher). If lowering the rear would level the truck out I would definitely go the lowering route. They make lowering shackles for your truck that would replace your stock leaf spring shackles and lower the truck 2″ for $100.

Got the truck back last night and it ended up only costing $192. Here are before and after photos.

How much did you lower the rear?
