What’s around the Cities for outboard motor salvage besides Twin City Outboard?..I need a lower unit for a 2005 Johnson 50hp…I really dont wanna replace the motor because I bought it new & its never been off our 350-400 acre Lake and it has very low hours on it…

Have you checked Boat Motor Recyclers in Burnsville?

Otherwise check EBay, I’ve bought one off there in the past.

I did find one on EBay but it was in New York & Local Pick-Up only, & I’m not local…

If you can’t find one locally it may be best to start googling and calling around. There are quite a few places online that sell used parts and some even have free shipping.

Not 100% sure but might want to research and see if you can look for Evinrude lower units as well. Could open up a bigger search query if they match up.

It’s not real close to the Twin Cities, but there’s Tim’s Outboard in Hackensack. I’ve had good luck with them.

What’s wrong with the lower unit? Can you have it sent out to be rebuilt?

Have you looked into rebuilt lower units? Not cheap, but if the motor is good then a good rebuilt unit will last many years.

Rebuilt lower units with a warranty are $1200 to $1700 depending on model. Not cheap, but then again you don’t get much of a replacement outboard for that either.

Lower unit is cracked, so no rebuilding it & no core value..

How was it damaged? Insurance (assuming you have it) will cover damage to lower units if it happened while on the water. I hit something submerged on the river a couple years ago and was surprised to find out State Farm covered it.

There’s a guy up by Walker that I used last time, and he shipped it to Cloquet where I had the repairs done. I think I found him by calling J&K Marine in Walker.
