I bought the Remington 887 when it first came out a few years ago. Synthetic, light, shoots 2 3/4 up to 3 1/2’s. Its a bottom of the duck boat kinda gun. I love mine. The only thing I have had issues with is short stroking when hunting a bunch of ducks or pheasants… Story of my life I guess. doah But all in all, I really like my 887 and might just be what you’re looking for.

When my little brother got his I was curious about jamming because he is a well known shortjacker.

When you say it that way, it sounds like some kind of problem he should ask his doctor about.

Update. I’ve been hitting the auction sites hard for used pump guns and the prices “sellers” are wanting are just stupid. I use sellers in quotes because these @ssclowns aren’t doing any selling, they’re just relisting the same overpriced guns over and over.

Over a third of the used Benelli Nova shotguns on Gunbroker have a starting bid or BIN price that’s higher than the current street price for a new gun.

I switched over to searching for used entry level autoloaders and prices are much more realistic. Not sure what it is about pump guns that has sellers thinking every one of them is a diamond in a goat’s @ss. If you guys want to have a good laugh, go look at Remington 870 pumps! It’s like a comedy of mental midget sellers. Aparently, the definition of “good condition” includes guns that were dipped in a salt bath and then dragged down a dirt road and left in the ditch for 3 months. If any of you guys want a collectors item like this, I can point you to one for only $399.

You guys don’t be bidding against me now, I’ve got 2 good candidates identified with auctions ending next week.

If only you’d tell me what you’re bidding on! Seriously, though, online auctions can get so frustrating sometimes.

About your dad’s 16GA….. just watch Cabelas. They sell Herter’s Select Grade target loads (#6 to 8) for as low as $5.99/box. I’ve picked up 2 cases over the last 2 years. Watch Wikiarms.com to assist finding the deals as well. Over at Ableammo.com, I once found a case of Fiocchi hi-brass #5’s for only $59.99/case and they were on promotion for free shipping. I’ve only burned 3 shells so far. 1 dead turkey, 2 dead crows.

Good 16GA ammo prices are out there….. just gotta dig ’em up.

Besides all this, what did you end up with?

I’m still watching auctions. The pressure is off right now as dad is down at their winter home and his brother lent him an 870 before leaving, so he’s set for this winter.

I’ll get a Benelli Nova if I can find a decent used one for a fair price. Most of the listings are pretty laughable right now, I wonder if the pawn shops and other places that list on the auction sites ever even bother to check the current NEW prices? Currently, on one auction site, there are just over 20% of the used guns priced higher than the new model can be bought.

Otherwise, my beater Stoeger 2000 has been just a dandy shotgun for “winning ugly” use. Absolutely nothing wrong with it at all for the money, so I might get one of them.

Re the 16 gauge ammo, yes those are both great sites and I’ve bought from Abels many times before.

I would prefer that he NOT rip hundreds of rounds out of his 16 shooting clays, however. It’s a Remington Model 11 and I found it in about 90% condition, which is very difficult to find so I hate to see it abused. It is also a fixed Modified choke.

Of course, now that I’m on the auciton sites, I found this fantastic little takedown .22…

Your dad needs a take down .22? wink He’s getting demanding. devil

I wonder if the day will ever come that my dad will ask to use one of my guns? He’s got a collection of all he’ll ever need for the things he does but you know, I like the idea of him carrying something of mine just like I carried something of his when I was young. I guess, I did buy him a circuit judge a couple of years ago and he uses that little outfit more than anything else now.

Dad’s borrowing guns…… must mean they have some darn good sons! waytogo toast

No, I’m the one who does not need a takedown .22. But I’ve always thought the Marlin Papoose was the neatest little rifle. It would just be so much fun to be able to take that along for a little plinking every now and again…

I’m sure a lot of our fathers had the same view of guns as my dad. Guns were tools and you got what you needed and that was it. There was no sense in owning anything overlapping, that was just a waste.
