Question for anyone that has stayed in an overnight house at LOW (Resort or Ice Castle).. particularly with Sportsman’s Lodge. We do a 3 generation family trip every year, the day after Christmas. Myself, my nephew and my mom every year. We fish 2 days in a day house and do fantastic every year. Typically 60-75 walleyes/saugers a day and fish hard all day. I know that bite slows after dark. My 14 year old nephew loves to fish all night (we fish all night except maybe 2 hours to sleep at Mille lacs), my mom would obviously much rather eat a nice dinner and stay in a hotel room, she is there for the experience. I guess my question is… is it worth it to stay overnight fishing at LOW? Thanks in Asvance

It’s about the experience. Let your nephew experience staying out all night with you. Let mom stay in a warm comfy motel room. Maybe one year is enough of a experience for your nephew, maybe not. Either way if you don’t try you will never know.

Regrets are something you never get a chance to fix.

There are no regrets! My then 13 year old nephew caught a 28” Wally last year in a day house. When he gets a little older we will skip the day houses and go out In our portables or castle. This is more of a fun trip which leads me to believe that we are doing it right. Skip the overnight house and do a couple days of fishing. *My mom doesn’t fish a lot. I’m still working on her (only fishes dead stick with bobber) slowly reeling the line until she feels tension and setting the hook. We still end up with a good amount of phantom hook sets, but she gets so excited on every bite! Haha

Same. I also enjoy chasing burbot so after dark the heavy baits go on the jigging sticks while a rattle wheel or dead stick are left down looking for roaming walleyes.

The question you’re really asking is it worth it …. to your mom? not is it worth it to a bunch of die hard fisherman on IDO. If it were just you and your nephew, probably a different answer.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix the good thing you have going.
