Trying to get an idea for a bass trip in the next year or so with a couple of buddies. Thinking either Rainy or LOTW. Anyone been smallmouth fishing on both? Is one better than the other? Thinking around June time frame

Does it matter US vs Canadian side to you? They fish differently and have different pros/cons.

If you are looking to keep any, a lot of LOTW has no bass possession in June.

We will stay in the Canadian side either Lake we go. As far as keeping any bass, the regulations regarding possession don’t matter to us. We are catch and release anyway. Now we may keep a few pike or walleye for supper if we happen to catch any.

I’ve never been smallmouth fishing on LOTW, but this past June I was on Rainy in Ontario and it was a very enjoyable trip. We didn’t catch any 20″+ smallmouth, and few real small fish, so most fish were around the 17″ mark, and quite fat. Lots of fun since most were caught on topwater. We also caught quite a few eater sized walleyes and pike. Not many people either. Hopefully someone else can give some insight on LOTW for you.

Thanks blank. What resort did you stay at. On Rainy I was looking at the Red Gut Bay area but am open to suggestions

Located in Northwest Bay. Tom is a nice, low-key type of guy, good fishing right around and close to camp, and limited boat traffic. I’ve never been to Red Gut, but I’ve been interested to try it.
