Griz, if you were heading up there when I go I could give you all the info you wanted, 3rd/4th week of Oct. When I leave they are shutting down till ice season as a norm. Most of the resorts have already closed when I arrive.

The fishing on LOTW is exceptional right now. Lots of keeper size walleyes with many larger slot fish in the mix. Fish over 28″ are not uncommon.

I can’t tell you if it’s a spinner bite in the mud or not. I haven’t used spinners on LOTW for years, instead preferring to troll crankbaits with lead core or snap weights to cover more water. Judging from the great crankbait bite I’ve been experiencing and the numbers of fish I’ve been marking deep, I’m confident spinners will work well also. I’ve also seen a lot of boats jigging.
You’re in for a great bite.

I switch cranks a lot and use many different colors, sizes and profiles of cranks throughout a day. Yesterday, Salmo Deep Minnows, #5 and #6 Salmo Hornets, #7 Deep Rapala Tail Dancers and Reef Runner Deep Little Rippers worked for us in various different colors. Red head/yellow body, orange/gold, red head/white body and cheap sunglasses were good colors for us yesterday but it varies from day to day and even throughout a day. Many others may have worked but we didn’t have to try any others. I keep quite a few different types and colors in my boat. Many different types of cranks will work and just keep changing them up if you’re marking fish and not getting bites. Wally Divers, Shad Raps, Flicker Shads, Flicker Minnows, Storm Smash Shads, Hot n Tots, and Lindy River Rockers are some that have been good for me on LOTW at different times. Varying speeds or making sharp s-turns to trigger strikes can work well at times also if you’re marking fish and not getting bit.

We’ve had really good luck up there on some non-traditional cranks(at least some you wouldn’t see many others using).

    Scatter minnow
    Salmo Bullhead

Have both been great baits for us.

Other than that, a lot of shad raps and the like.

I forgot to mention Salmo Bullheads. They’ve been really good for me this year too. I guess I’ll have to spend some time trying Scatter Minnows. I carry some with me but just haven’t tried them yet.

Last year there was one day we had a perch scatter minnow outperform every other bait 3:1.

The year before that, the red/white salmo bullhead was unstoppable, but has since been less effective.
