We are looking to see the ice on LOTW for the first time. Been coming up in the Summer and Spring for Years (Canada Side) but think we have the time to make it work this year during the winter.
Obviously there are several options and wanted to see if anyone had advice for us and maybe what we could expect with each option.
South Shore – From what I’ve watched and read, this is going to be a walleye/sauger bite, good numbers of fish, maybe not a lot of great size? Looks like lots of options on resorts.
NW Angle – I know we have the flexibility to head into Ontario to chase crappies. I’m assuming there are good walleye options on this stretch of the lake as well? Recommendations on resorts?
Canada – We’ve based out of Clearwater Bay/Kenora….would love to see this part of the lake on the ice but am very intimidated as there aren’t many guide options or places to stay. If anyone can give some advice on this area i would appreciate it. Crawfords Camp would be pretty awesome it looks like….
We are coming from Nebraska and are experienced Ice anglers but don’t have our own sleds, so will need to find some or rent them from someone when we get there. Ideally, we will fish for three days (maybe 4) and have a permanent home base on the ice, with the flexibility to move around with sleds and portables during the day. Right now, i would be leaning towards something in the NW angle, as it’s probably the closest and gives us the most flexibility and fishing options. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
